Some of that will be heading your way after Christmas πŸ˜‰

Water outlet finished with Eastwoods Alumablast for a fresh aluminium look.
Might I suggest doing these in cerakote also, I can so them in Satin Aluinium, looks just like cast aluminium. Recently did the water outlets on my Civic with that. Would be much more durable against the coolant than a 1K paint.

Was just about to say that too!

Definitely the way to go for durability over paint.

Progress update on the bodywork side of things...

I've been waiting on some air tools arriving as my grinder is on its last legs and only lasts 5mins before it cuts out which really slows things down. I have most of the donor bits trimmed out for where I want them so they just need welding in now. I have decided to do the rear drivers side chassis leg too. It has had a patch welded in before but they've made a dog's dinner of it and I can't leave it like that. The donor leg is perfect so it only makes sense to swap that in. This will come complete with the floor section over the rear drivers side pocket so will kill two birds with one stone. I'm hoping to have the old one out by the weekend and perhaps get some stuff tacked in place.

No point in leaving something a mess when you have done everything else and have a replacement available. (y)

Hard to beat the air tools.

I'd say my mini sander and my die grinders are the most used in my workshop.

Love the Roloc stuff, being able to quickly change attachments is super handy.

Precisely. It's more work than I wanted but it's the right thing to do to leave it sitting right. Hopefully the horrible mess will look a lot less horrible very soon 🀞🏻

Another successful night in the workshop and once again thanks @bigsigh for lending a hand πŸ‘πŸ» I had decided now would be the perfect time to replace the rear drivers side chassis leg as it had been previously patched and not very well either. The legs from the Proton were in near perfect condition so it makes perfect sense to get it out of the road now. The spot welds were drilled out and trimmed along the length of the chassis leg. I had to fabricate a small sleeve for the chassis leg to fit into as well. Only a small amount of cutting required tomorrow and we should be ready to start putting pieces back in rather than taking them out πŸ‘πŸ»

Not actually related to this car but since I'm interested in rally memorabilia I saw this for sale on eBay earlier.

This baseball cap signed by rally superstars Alistair and Jimmy McRae. Pipergram International partnered the Autosport Racing Car Show at the NEC in Birmingham in 2006. The Scottish rally drivers were guests of Pipergram International. Pretty cool to have and might be worth something down the line 😎

Happy Birthday to me 😁
The wait is finally over! After almost a month my steering wheel has arrived from Japan. Got hit with another Β£86 charge for customs but sod it, YOLO!
I'm extremely happy with it. It's virtually brand new. As previously mentioned I got myself a new rear view mirror too, mine was showing it's age a bit and for the price I couldn't not get it.

The catalogues I bought from Jauce.com also arrived at the same time. Again, like new

The optional gauges I bought a few weeks ago. Β£315 when new.

I'll be doing a bit more on the bodywork over the weekend as well as restoring and protecting some other parts. Will fire some pics up once I'm done (y)

That steering wheel! Wow! 😍

Someone must have sat on that for thirty-odd years in a drawer or something 😲

That is exactly what they did. The car it came from was purchased to be a rally car so it was removed immediately and put into storage. There are a couple of very very small (maybe 1.5/2mm wide) dents on it but there is zero wear on the wheel itself. You would probably never find another in this condition!

Some added protection given to the OEM rear toe arms and front bushes. Didn't trust the factory coating to not flake off after a few years so they got a healthy dose of primer and estoril blue, then I had to do the Hardrace adjustable camber arms to match of course πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Worth doing. I paint all OEM parts as soon as I get them, otherwise doesn't take long before they look terrible.

Exactly. You could usually spit through the paint they put on them. I'm only after spending the entire afternoon trying replace the brakes on my brother's 420D... only managed to replace the fronts and pads on one side of the rear due to seized carrier bolts 🀯 The crustiness that came off the brakes and looking at the state of the underside was appalling for an 8 year old car. Case in point, this is why I go all out when it comes to rust prevention. I don't ever want to have to deal with that kind of thing on the Evo! Some people may look at it and say why bother, you'll never see it but at least I can be pretty certain in years to come that it's underside is in good shape πŸ‘πŸ»

Yes. It even bothers me on my Mazda 3 daily driver, looks awful underneath.

Obviously I like my nice cars to look good everywhere but equally to that it just makes them easier to work on in the future.

Exactly. It's one of those "while you're in there" jobs 😊

Just finished this front driveshaft too πŸ‘ŒπŸ»The shafts were sprayed with plain satin black Hammerite spray and the joints were primed and painted RAL 6028 Pine Green. The boots are in excellent condition and thankfully don't need replacing.

Another few items picked up tonight. Some Ralliart lower engine mounts, a genuine Walbro 255lph fuel pump and some trim pieces. I can't even find these engine mounts anywhere for sale online so I imagine they've been long discontinued now. Still in the wrapper. These were bought for a friend's rally car but never fitted.

In other news I've found someone extremely local to come and do some welding for me πŸ‘πŸ» He'll be able to finish the job much quicker than I would. As it happens he's one of my neighbours who lives across the road and until very recently I hadn't met yet. Several of his clients had been asking him who "the detailing guy" was around here and he came over to get some business cards and got chatting. He owns McMaster Vehicle Rust Solutions so this kind of work is his bread and butter. Looking forward to putting bits back in 😁
