How To: Paint wheels on the cheap

I am doing a cheap refurb of mv2's and wanted to go for a darker silver, say something like the ferric II colour.

Is there a rattle can colour that would be a close match to it, or is it more a case of getting it made up? If so, is there anywhere you would recommend in Bangor?

Thanks.
Can’t help you with the grey but Finish them with 2k. Spray a tacky dust coat leave 5 mins then a nice gloss coat and jobs a good un. Wear a mask it’s lethal.
Acrylic lacquer out of a tin just doesn’t last the test of time.

I'm painting bare cast metal that has been sand blasted.
I bought some black self etch and high build primer, and some satin black spray paint.
Straight onto the metal with the primer? What grade of sandpaper to rub it down? Should the primer be completely dry before applying paint?

Thanks
Adam

sandblasting can leave wheels in crap condition for painting, been there.

etch primer, then paint/laquer

rubbing with 400 wet is fine if you arent too precious on them

Cheers Paul. Not wheels but these cast iron weights. Similar process though I guess.

they look quite rough so I think youll struggle tbh
I thought they looked pretty smooth, but I haven't sprayed anything for a while. You are the expert DIYer though. If I spray with high build primer, that's designed to fill in the holes, and then sand it down with a flat block, leaving the primer in the holes. That's the theory isn't it?

Ive never found high build primer to fill anything of significance tbh

hard to tell from the pics obviously

also found filler primer to be a bit useless unless out of a proper gun

Looking a paint stripper that actually works

I'd be better of using cotton wool instead of nitromors it's a pile of piss these days.

Anything else similar out there that works?

That's what we currently use on the bikes, got it from a local motor facotrs though. It's great, wild if you get it on your skin though.

starchem synstryp is another that gets good reviews
