Just ordered my ICE from AA the other day and I'm having a go at some of the install myself.

First up - where would I get materials?

MDF & a decent glue
Carpet & Alcantara
Perspex
Neons & LEDs

I know the battery has to be disconnected for most of the instalation but doesnt disconnecting it "erase the cars memory" or even reset the alarm ? :confounded:

Cheers
Trev

b&q for MDF buy an 8x4 sheet works out a lot cheaper

evo stick contact adhesive good, or just use normal spray glue. I use stuff from Zivhargo upholstery in Belfast very good stuff.

Mcmordies on ravenhill road in belfast for your perspex

maplins or a computer shop for neons and LED's

Is it a Clifford alarm? Shouldnt "reset" the alarm, i had my battery disconnected a hundred times in the 306 with never any bother.

Yeah it is a clifford -
Just asking cus I had the -neg terminal off the battery for the whole of 10 seconds once to clamp someting under it. When I turned the ignition on after that I got a series of bleeps but the alarm was ok.

Disconnecting the battery wont do the ECU any harm then ?

u can disconnect the batt and it'll not give the alarm any bother, just make sure u dont do it wen its armed or ull get deafened wen u put the terminals back on-and if u've the battery backup siren jobbie it'll keep goin even wen the terminals are lifted off.

and as for the ECU...of course not

Thanks again (y)

Must make some space in the back yard and pray for good weather :relieved:

Removing door-cards and boot lining to make the measurements be a sensible start then?
Or should I sound-deaden before I make any attempt at the build ?

deffo sound deaden everything!!!!

Otherwise when the build is finished the car will rattle like a big rattly thing...

Dynamat extreme is the way forward. They do a bulk pack - 8 sheets...

It's a Renault, it's a Clio, it's French - for a small hatch it is a big rattly thing ! :sob:

I have a fair bit of extreme on the doors already and a bit on the bootlid (I think) from when my first sub went in.

I'll propably need a bit more on the lid and then line the boot & sidewalls?

Just a thought - has anyone used dynamatt to cure a roof rattle ?

i had 14 rolls of extreme in my black clio, fairly cuts the road noise down, but still had a few rattles. a roll or 2 in each door is a must, 2 will do the roof, and a few in the boot. then if you are still not happy, the rear quarters and floor will consume a few more rolls!

Boydie - My sunroof is the electric one :grinning:

the extreme is the best, and personally i wouldnt use anything else. brown bread isn't too bad, certainly better than the original dynamat, which is crap.

extreme is very good and the best available locally although if you are prepared to go further afield there are better products. although these will be hitting our shores soon im sure and are becoming available in england at the minute fresh from america. might have to get a hold of some and see how it goes! ;)
