what kinda price would you expect to pay to port and polish a 1.6 8v head.
got no idea myself, just wondering if it would be worth it.

I'd imagine starting price would be around £300-350 up to £££. Depends what its for, what you want done to it etc etc

Thanks mate.

Do you get much gains from a port and polish (it would be for my vtr).

Also what all is involved with porting and polishing, what do they actually do to your head.

That'd only be a basic porting of the head (its a rough guess at price) Cylinder head mods can run into thousands depending on what you want. I'm no expert on the subject but its to do with improving flow of air/fuel into the head, and exhaust gases out. Removing casting flaws and protrusions can also help. I'm sure Mr Gault will be along shortly; he'll give a better explanation and what gains to be expected

apparently the inlet ports are better when they are a bit rough, helps the mixture of fuel somehow. outlet ports are better polished though i think.

my heads are never polished, satin finish only.

why polish an exhaust port ? it only carbons up in 10s after starting?

only part that gets a nice finish is combustion chambers on race heads such as pintos/ chambered crossflow etc
