Jesus I have no idea what half the stuff you have done or even talked about but my god that is just absolutely mental.

The attention to detail and being able to do any of that urself is simply incredible.

There is no doubt I'm going to end up putting the car over the hedge if I meet that thing coming pelting down the road the other way

Credit where its due, simply stunning

Cheers everyone, thanks for the kind words. Bit blown away actually. I hope to get chatting to everyone in person whenver we are allowed to do that again.

As far as best build on RMS I think theres a few builds on here that would defintly rival mine, I never even painted it . But Im flattered and I apreciate the compliments.

A wave would be fine, but as long as you aim for the hedge and not me im ok with that though lol

Im very lucky to have had alot of help along the way from my Dad and friends as well as so many people ive been talking to on facebook, forums, local parts places and my own work who are nice enough to let me cut parts use equipment on my own time. It all adds up. Sometimes its not what you know its who you know as they say.

That's lovely work and a great outcome. I love the timber.
I just noticed the rope hook under the bed and it got me thinking about corrosion where steel touches aluminium. Long term it might be worth having thin rubber between the parts. I didn't notice if there was anything between chassis and bed frame.

Yea I agree ive ordered some thin Mika style sheet and nylon washers to isloate them as ive seen the defender bodies corrode after a while, though on the Galvanic series mild steel zinc galv and ali are within 0.25V so I doubt the reaction will be agressive. The bed has a rubber strip and paint between the chassis and it. More for flex than anything else. Aalco doesnt even really specify what grade thier extrusions are either  which doesnt really help.

Anyways using my extra time off wisely ive gotton on with the interior and got some really industrial heavy ribbed rubber back carpet fitted. Also made rubber mat out of some penny rubber for my dirty boots so that carpet has half a chance of lasting round me.
Took a while to get the removable trans tunnel carpet all cut so ud hardly notice it was there. But It will be worth it if ive ever to get at the gearbox just unbolt it and remove with the carpet glued to it. Only cut myself twice this time.

Also done under the seat its almost ready to start and make into a tool and spare part storage area.

Well as if the vauge steering wasnt scary enough at the minute. I was lucky enough to fall in with a man in Austrailia last year that knows a thing or two about Cummins calibrations and I wanted to learn about them. So we started working on doubling the horsepower of the ISBE, ive been gathering software and exchaning information for months now on and off until it was ready to start mapping it.

We are building a custom calibration for it that should really liven it up and match the torque curve to my driveline. The plan is to extending high speed governing from 2500 rpm to 3200rpm to get alot more out of the 5 speed box. Pushing the rail pressure up, and moving boost cut to 45psi. That with some timing and fuel table tweaks should see us into the 400hp+ reigon. With a boat load of torque to back it up in the right areas.

As of today the first version of a Irish/Auzie "collabaration calibration" is on the engine, and its time to start testing and datalogging it.

Ill let you all know and get some videos once I get it out on the road. Should be intresting.

@mcma1 also called over today and took some dash bits away to scan and hopefully ill have a place for a double din headunit and my airlift controller soon.

Cheers,
Ged

Diesels are very forgiving when tuning....just don't do any of that black reek BS !! lol

Just learning but yea with some help shes coming together, on my own so no videos.

Black reek? noo.. not me... lol but weve added a fair amount to the transient fuel table. To help spool. boost cuts set atm at 60inhg (30PSI)

We are going to start and get a little nerdy but here is a short pull through all gears and drive IATs are resnoble under the short pull, ill need to get a load put on her somehow to do a better IAT test. As at 3k rpm in top which it got to very quickly is a little em.. hello officer....

With the EFC on the CP3 only running 40% duty while maxing out the 100% fuelling on the calibration, Kept the rail pressure at 20k for now. these CP3s can generally provide enough fuel for 600WHP so we have pleanty of overhead in the fuelling department. The HE351 will long be out of steam before the CP3.

run 2 ga.JPG

Very happy with the preformance, some more tweaks and ill get a decent video of it for you all.

In the mean time heres a few clips of me playing with the settings and doing a little coin test on the ISBE not bad for a 5.9l donkey.

Cheers,
Ged

Been busy working on a few other projects and focusing my time on some things ive been neglecting during my push on the GMC. But ive been quietly organsing things for the next run of jobs.

One of which was working out where to put the 4 extra gauges I couldnt fit onto, the dash, Mulled over a few ideas with an overhead gauge pod etc, but there isnt really alot of room and it would be in the way of your vision. So I elected for an under the dash option and got to some CAD with the cardboard and some stainless and got it fabricated.

Started on a little sub loom to add them into the main harness

Ive also been CADing up some ideas for my winch mount and "headache" rack though they are just concepts atm.

Ill see if I want to go ahead with it or not. I may change the cut out designs.

Still waiting on some nice shiney parts to work on my steering geometry.

Funny to see that pod, have exactly the same arrangement on the wee Lotus for auxiliary gauges :innocent: Works great for things like oil temp/pressure, etc.

Finished off the gauge pod over the weekend, all wired in and working still waiting on my EGT gauge but I got the probe drilled and tapped into the exhaust manifold and all the wiring done for everything else.

Also voided the warrenty on some new castor corrected arms to see if more castor will help the front end.

A little wet for a test drive but we shall see how it goes when we get a dry spell.

Any thoughts on exhaust rain flaps? I really don't know if they are needed or not, but just think they look cool when they open and close, lol.

Not needed as ive a hole drilled in the bottom and I lifted my crossover an inch above that, I hate the rattle they make more than anything, they look cool but they would drive me daft at idle.

Just a series of details this week, ive been dragged around to some other projects.

Made some brackets and wired some front marker lights for the bed, handily they act as a nice puddle and diesel tank filler light.

The steering column was always a little close with the drop bracket so i stuck it in the mill and took half an inch off it drilled and retapped it. Raised the wheel a little to get it off my lap.

@mcma1 reccomended some oil for the bed when he called up, so I got it ordered and it arrived today very satisfying job, only finished it so ill post some pics when it drys but it should be a nice satin finish.

I thought he already had a defender with one of those in it and sold it? Or maybe that was someone else? Fun wee project either way

That side light looks brighter than the sun in the picture :innocent:

But the bed, oh my 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Gavin from blackline called up at the weekend and sorted me out with a new airlift controller under warrenty, as mine was starting to play up and there was some scheming done on the ICE front of the GMC, its not something id originally considered to be nessiscary but it might be something ill regret down the road so some plans are in motion.

Also made some room in the 110

Awesome stuff, both the truck and the defender. I guess he regrets selling the last one.
