Will the new "Cat" rules apply to diesels under 3.5 ton since they don't check for emissions on them?

No doubt the very abusive rev the dung out of a diesel smoke test will come back in too at some stage.

Dont want to contritict this as its correct, but my old Focus mentioned above has passed MOT with no issues every year since this was done. The chap that bought it always txts me to let me know. Last year the examiner commented on its low emissions.

Did it pass with flying colours?

I gained 9 BHP from the cat removal, Ktec decat pipe.

I also gained a lot more noise (stright through from turbo FTW) :confounded: and a quicker spooling turbo.

I have just been through MOT went in red hot and nothing was mentioned.

IF Cat tests are coming back in, I'd imagine diesel smoke tests will be back as well, as far as I know, the cat requirement is only on petrol engines

I wonder is the static rpm limit on modern diesels the manufacturers response to these abusive smoke tests ? Most modern cars cannot be revved over 3000rpm or thereabouts when stationary.
Makes perfect sense...pity older cars dont have such safety measures in place.

Have you ever asked anyone the reasoning behind revving the crap out of them ?

Never had MOT inspector try that redlining on my car. They'd have a surprise coming if they tried it too (y)

I don't see the big problem, diesel engine have govenors on them which restrict them to (usually) 5000rpm, reving on full throttle is how older diesel pumps were set, ask any diesel specialist, NCT and VOSA have been testing diesel cars like this for years.

The rev when it was 1st introduced sometimes too a long time to red, this time the talk is, it will be revved to the governed speed and off again, not held as before
