Decided to get back at it around 10pm tonight. Got the engine running, just missing top coolant hose, radiator cap & air intake pipe.
I’l have to see if Higgins Dismantlers still have them.

Finished off the welding of the bulk head & gave the truck’s bed it’s first coat to dry over night.

I bought a 37” light bar for Christmas for the friend that owns the Jimny I mentioned earlier. It’s the perfect fit between roof rails on his hard top and it’s very neat and low profile, and a complete bargain at £60. It has the spot and flood pattern so it’s got a great spread of light.

A pair of square work lamps may actually be more suitable on yours though as they could be mounted so that they are moveable depending on what your dad is doing...?

Again, I bought a couple of those square units as reverse lights for the horse lorry and work lights for the diggers and they are unreal compared to halogen bulb lights.

Have you a link to the 37” LED light bar? Sounds exactly what it needs as that length would fit perfect tucked up in there

Today started off with acquiring the missing engine parts from the scrap yard.

After they were all sourced & fitted we fired the engine up & found smoke from the alternator. Turned out to be the belt rubbing across a seized alternator pulley but luckily we were able to rob one off the old block.

@Nicky is going to p*ss himself & this one. Muggins here was too impatient to let the first coat dry from the night before & sprayed stone chip ontop as a final coat. The idea is that stone chip has a rubbery texture & items thrown in the truck would ‘bounce’, or at least have some energy absorbed.

Well, it reacted & everything started to melt.

Pee’d off I decided to get this car off my mates lift & back home to my own garage as the project was running behind schedule. No life in the battery & with no booster pack or charger I went to jump it off my van.. but the starter motor packed in. It’s the second starter I’ve put in that ‘05 Mk6 2.0 : unamused:

Anyway, got project Jimny started but the bonnet latch wasn’t playing ball. Finally got it to shut but now it won’t open so that’s another job on the list.

Got home, clear head with all my own tools around me the wife kindly helped me cut the Perspex window to size & fit to the bulk head.
Now, I’ve never fitted a window in my life but although it was extremely pernickety it was rather satisfying.

Frig it, let’s get this gunk off & start again.

All back to bare metal again it gets a fresh coat which will be left to cure until at least Saturday when I will make up the timber trim.

Happy boy.

On the short drive home I noticed the wee truck has a noisy thrust bearing, the pads must be worn through & I need to refasten the seat belts to avoid the bulk head in some way.

Other than that, we’re on target for Christmas Day.

Hammerite. May be tacky but once its set its set & its great as a seam sealer.
Ah right, yeah it takes a long ass time to properly harden, definitely not an overnight job.

If you could get a litre or 2 of upon raptor truck bed liner it’s will be a hell of a lot tougher as it is a 2k setup

Cheers but everything was too late for online orders & that massive tin of Hammerite had been sitting in my utility room for 5 years & was starting to p*ss me off lol

I already bought one of your sh*tty wee mugs :joy:

Are You going to PMG tomorrow night, or know anyone who is?

It’s ok mate il settle for Hammerite in the mean time but thanks for the offer!

Planned to give the exterior a wash in daylight & polish in the garage but Christmas shopping had to be done.

Quick pic of masking tape removed

How very rude!!!

If anyone from the north coast is coming down I can send it up with them.

It does pick off a bit though - might have been poor prep on my part though

@BarryPort . If you want a lend of my garage heater to help it cure quicker your more than welcome to it .

Thats a very kind offer Mark - last time we hit it with a space heater it cured in no time. An hour even. But since we have 3 days to go I can sit it out thanks mate.

LOL @Big Pimp ! Honestly its ok as I think prefer a smooth finish rather than the textured feel. All the best for tonight buddy (y)

Excellent work here for a great cause! Hats off

Ive had loads of cars in my time & have worked on every one of them but this has by far taken the most time, effort & determination. Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing technical about it, just bloody time consuming.

About to head to bed after a few cans of Guinness & a G&T around 9pm it occurred to me I have a heavy weekend on the horizon with friends I havnt seen in a while with it being the festive season.

Maybe taking a dander down to the garage to start the woodwork may not be a bad idea.. I was right. 6hrs later I’m updating a thread on here.

Mrs BarryPort came down to assist

All hands on deck

While I started packing out the bed to level it out. Did my upmost to utilise existing threaded holes in the chassis.
