For me, a car must have air con, electric windows and rear view camera as I loathe the beeps and I usually spend a few days/weeks installing a sound system, which is why I keep a car for years, fighting the urge to replace it with a newer, prettier car every few months!

For me, brakes, wheels, lights and wipers.

Nothing else really matters to me. I drive some scrap so I’m used to it.

Heated windscreen for me, its just so handy. Auto dimming rear view mirror is also very handy in the dark winter nights.

And can't believe no one has said this, but a bit of power. Hateful driving something that's dead as hector.

Depends on the car in fairness. Keeping something with hardly any power on the boil down a back road can be absolutely brilliant craic. Really throwing all you can at it. Plus there's the skinny tyres, low weight, etc thing assuming it's not a 1.3 straight diesel Volvo estate.

Really don't get heated seats. Had them in my last two cars and literally never turned them on.

Couldn't do without an auto box though, driving into Belfast everyday it's a necessity.
Totally with you on the auto! Could never go back to a manual now!

On the lookout for a new car and even though im a luddite its got to have heated seats, xenon headlights and cruise control. Its surprising how few cars have all three unfortunately. Superbs in elegance trim are about the only thing below 10k.

I have 3 simple requirements:

- At least 200bhp (assuming it’s just a normal size and weight of a vehicle)

- A proper manual gearbox

- Must be nice and easy to work at, so no renaults ect.

I have lots of likes beyond this but that’s my bare minimum. I’m happy to wind down a window, If it doesn’t have parking sensors I can learn it’s dimensions pretty quick, if it doesn’t have remote locking I just don’t bother locking it.

The wee buzzer that tells ye your lights are still on.

I inadvertently left the lights on last Wednesday as I no longer get the 'buzzer' to tell me otherwise. Went out, flat battery, battery wouldn't charge again and cost me 50 dabs to get a new one.

Jesus I'm just happy that mine starts and has a radio.
On a normal car though, heated windscreen and good sound system is top of the list.
Honestly how did a heated windscreen take so long to become almost standard?

I have fitted a new radio with Bluetooth and all that jazz to my car but 90% of the time I don’t even turn it on. My list is pretty simplistic compared to a lot on here lol.
  • Reasonably comfortable seats,
  • remote central locking,
  • Adjustable speed wipers (not the 3 stage: off, barely on and rocking the car from side to side speeds some cars have)
  • Lights that automatically turn off when you lock the car so you can just walk away.
My list for a second/weekend car would be a lot longer; starting with Japanese, petrol, RWD and Booooost.

My 1996 Escort RS had it which must have been a pretty good option back then. I had forgotten how great they where until I bought my current 2010 Alhambra.

Ford have had the patent on that for years, i think its not that long that its licenced to all car makers now, could be wrong.

Think your right as Volvo had them from a good few years back but only ford partners had access I think. Can't see why auto makers who come up with these genius ideas patent them, the seatbelt was open for use by all as it's a safety feature, so would heated screens be imo
