Broke a stud while removing the vanos because the tool I had wasn't quite right. ...

Anyone know where I'd get a replacement? Not even sure how I'll get it out. Wanted to get the car finished by Monday so the mechanics can have their garage when they come back in

I did the same on a manifold stud last year. Bought a set of stud extractors from Colin Adams that did the trick but they can be hit and miss depending on how much threads left (looks like you might have enough in the pic)

Something like these:

If you remove the thermostat housing, you should be able to get a stud extractor on there. I’ve a 1/2“ drive extractor but it’s a long way from Norn Iron lol

I’ll have a look at my online catalogue and get you the bmw part number for the stud. You might be able e bay one.

EDITED TO INCLUDE THREAD SIZES

Think it's number 13 🤔

There's 5 studs the same length and one longer one which I think is number 17 but uses the bolt numbered 14.

Thanks for the info!!! Wonder if I'll be able to get one 🙈

Could you not put 2 nuts on an try wind it out or is there not enough thread?

Tread only deep enough for one nut, and even if there was the length, the end of the nuts are flared so I couldn't get to the second if I could fit two on

I'm sure there's something in the toolbox that the mechanics would use but sure I don't have a stud so 🤷‍♂️😂
Sure no problem! I did the easy bit lol!

I just edited my post above with an ebay link to one

Yeah that's above and beyond helpful thanks again

got a Swade interior for the e46 project gonna need retried in places but happy at £100 for door cards an all, removed gearbox to change clutch to find a pivot pin is the cause of slipping but changed for new clutch anyway and pin ordered for start of next week apparently a common fault

Still adjusting the drivers seat, got to weld a bit more to the sub frame to get it more centered so it can go lower , also now it needs a altinator sue to lack of use ffsView attachment 272212View attachment 272213

Just had my alternator done during the week there, much cheaper to have reconditioned

Will be in a similar predicament next week when I go to fit my bucket seat too

yep that’s the plan, both the supra and my brothers evo 3 have been off the road same length of time and both need the altinators sorted lol they aren’t fully dead yet but in their way sadly, problem is we are all in lock down, my da is better at welding than me so it’s all stopped until he comes out of hiding lol

So, one thing that annoyed the wife and I about her car was the black front plate plinth. Wanted to take it off as I knew there was a smaller holder underneath.

Plate and plinth off, greeted by grime and lots of lovely holes, nice.

Grime removed, new plinth measured and length sent to Neil Rockvale for a new plate to be printed.

Visible holes filled.

Then smoothed and painted with a colour matched touch up pen.

And new plates on! Very pleased, filled holes are grand until you’re within touching distance and even then it’s very passable. Will do until the front end gets repainted.

Got the rest of the centre console off today. While it was off I thought it'd be a good time to replace the cabin filter and heater resistor 👍 one less job to worry about

Next was throw everything into a cage to keep it all in one place and tidy out of the way. I'd say there's a good 50kg saved already maybe more 🤷‍♂️

Driver seat was about 20kg and new one is 7ish

Exhaust is a similar weight

Now to remove the carpet, easy way seems to be cut around the centre console so when it goes back on you can't see the separation. Looks like a lot of work to remove in one piece 😂 so I'll be taking the easy route
