Rob's BMW M3 - Imola Edition (1999)

After 2 months of searching and viewing countless "mint" M3's, I found my new car and travelled to London to collect her. It was registered in January 1999, and had 53k on the clock, reflected by the absolutely pristine condition of the car both inside and out. For those who don't know, there were 50 of these Special Editions made, to mark the end of the production of the E36 M3, being the last 50 to roll out of the factory and available in RHD only for the UK market. They are officially called an M3 Imola Individual, but are commonly misconceived to have the title "GT2", after the previous M3 GT in British Racing Green. The Imola Edition comes with the following spec: 3201cc, 6 Speed Imola Red Paint Imola Red Leather/Anthracite Amaretta Suede Electric Seats GT Bi-Splane Spoiler with Brake Light GT Corner Splitters 8.5R/7.5Fx17" Polished M Double Spoke Alloys Digital Climate Control & Air Conditioning Red Stitching on Steering Wheel & Hand Brake Electric Mirrors, Sun Roof, Front Windows & Rear 1/4 Windows Auto dim rear view mirror Harmon Kardon Audio Upgrade & 6CD The car also has the following modifications: AC Schnitzer Pedals AC Schnitzer Carbon Fibre Strut Brace Eibach Pro-Kit Springs (Lowers approx 25mm) Ferodo DS2500 Brake Pads During the first few months of ownership, the main surprise has been the excellent economy; returning a very healthy 35+mpg on long journeys, and an easy 27mpg in mixed driving. Occasionally it slips below 20 but that's no fault of the car and tbh it's still pretty good! The driving experience is totally different to what I'm used to - smooth power delivery through the rear wheels is a lot different to the sudden surge of boost through the front wheels in my Ibiza. Although its taking a bit of getting used to, it's lots of fun and makes for an interesting drive in the wet! However in the dry there is ample grip which inspires confidence to push a little harder and the car easily pulls right the way round the clock with no hesitations. Aside from performance, I've found the M3 to be a great all rounder. Comfort and ride quality are a major quality, with comfy leather Vador seats making long journeys seem effortless. Even with the addition of Eibach lowering springs, the car is easily as comfortable as my mum's 5 series! There are also a host of electrical gadgets and buttons to keep me amused, and the sound from the Harmon Kardon speakers leaves no desire to have to start upgrading the stereo. All in all it is the first car I've owned which feels complete, providing a good compromise between performance and quality.
