Sorry buddy.

There is a specialist firm that you could try, who purely cover trackdays and motorsport - www.moris.co.uk

You can apply online for a stand alone trackday cover quote, so hopefully they'll come up trumps.

Kind regards

Do you offer any type of insurance that would be suitable for me?

Its a heavily modified classic but I see your modified policies only cover up to £20k and classic up to £30k, I was hoping to get an agreed value somewhere above £40k?

Can you give cover for this?

Hi Ian,

Thanks for posting (and for thinking of us).

The 260z is a really nice looking car and is clearly a sought after vehicle, particularly if in top condition.

Heavily modified vehicles are not a problem to us and we've a strong pedigree for covering these. But our value ceiling for this would usually be £20,000 (or £30,000 with referral to Underwriters).

Unfortunately £40,000 will be beyond our current value limits and we'll be unable to help on this occasion.

Kind regards

Tony

P.S. An Insurance route worth checking would be the owners club, as their Insurance providers will have constant exposure to the models.

Hi Tony, went you first because you already insure my Civic and have always been very helpful.

The 260Z is worth a fair bit on its own, but to just get it insured for the cars value alone would mean me loosing out because of the cost of the parts in it. For example the engine and turbo setup alone are worth over £7k. The ECU and wiring harness are worth over £3k. I therefore really need a policy that will pay out close to what the car is worth to me if anything happens and that also covers the modifications. Its worth well over £40k to me, but I don't expect to be able to get full cover for everything.

I'll have a look and see what I can find, may end up coming back to you if I have no luck, a lot of insurers don't cover NI.

Thanks again for the opportunity Ian,

I never understood the excludes Northern Ireland thing, we've been covering Northern Ireland consistently for 9 years now and have steadily improved our product range there. We're extremely fond of the place and the people

When rating modifications - in a total loss situation, every Underwriter we've ever dealt with will consider the impact of the respective modifications upon the value of the vehicle, rather than add the cost of the modifications, labour figure and consumables directly to the value.

The starting point will always be the base (unmodified vehicle) value, then they will assess the impact of each respective modification.

As a rule of thumb, they will add the full value of items that are not already present upon the vehicle (ie. bodykits/spoilers) or where items are being upgraded they will look at the difference between the value of the existing/standard part upon the vehicle and the upgraded item. For example, the existing alloy wheels will clearly have a value and if you purchase an after market set of wheels, with the original wheels helping to form part of the standard vehicle valuation they would usually add the difference between the two. On the basis that you cannot add the value of both items (ie. including a set of wheels that would not be upon the vehicle) as only one would be upon the vehicle.

Parts that have a wear and tear factor, or usable life (usually defined by manufacturer based upon mileage) may have their value proportionally reduced where particularly worn. But with you having an everyday car and your modified classic having a low mileage use this factor is unlikely to impact you dramatically.

Insurers do have dedicated resources within their claims departments (including specialist vehicle claims teams and dedicated in house engineers) who will use relevant resources such as forum's (Pistonheads etc) and owners clubs to assist with valuing the vehicle. We also work closely with our customer, to help with valuation in the event any assistance is required.

In a repairable (non-total loss) incident, the individual damaged or stolen parts would be replaced upon a like for like basis. With new parts being purchased (or in some instances cash in lieu settlement provided) to repair your vehicle to it's exact pre-incident/accident condition wherever possible.

Hopefully this provides a bit more detail that may be of use.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Mousey,

Sorry to hear that you felt our adviser to be unhelpful.

Our customers drive some very cool cars and with most of our team here also owning and running (or having owned and ran) the types of vehicle's we Insure (some of which you can see upon our facebook page) we tend to find that most of our team are into their cars and usually pretty enthusiastic about our customer's vehicles.

We're usually quite easy to deal with here and we'd be interested to follow this up with our adviser who spoke with you. So if you can PM me and let me know when you called, along with the number that you called from i'll be able to organise for the call to be traced and "the boy from little Britain" to be found.

In terms of your enquiry, is this something that I can take a look at or manage for you?

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Sh4u11,

Thanks for posting.

We've been covering imported vehicle's for several years now and posted at the time in our trader section of the forum (see link below):

http://reallymeansounds.com/forum/t...listed-vehicle-insurance-01277-650866.135549/

The same acceptance criteria applies to imported vehicle's as UK one's in terms of performance car driving experience (depending upon the BHP of the vehicle you're looking to cover). If the vehicle is a rear wheel drive model (Supra, Skyline GTS, Mazdz RX-7/RX-8) we'll also be looking for recent experience of driving a rear wheel drive model.

We'd happily to take a look at this for you.

To see what we can do you can reach us by:

1) Calling our dedicated telephone team on 01277 650866 - (Monday to Friday 9am - 6pm, Saturday 9am - 1pm)
2) PM'ing me your contact details and we'll call to run through this with you
3) Logging onto our website to apply online at www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk

You may find that with an imported model these will be handled on a bespoke basis due to not being classified by the Association of British Insurers, so calling rather than applying online may be the best option for an imported model vehicle.

Thanks again for the opportunity, we hope to hear from you.

Kind regards

Tony

Tony, do you cover Japanese import cars yet?

Thanks.

Hey Tony, Are you able to insure a 20 year old on a 182? I have 1 year NCB in my own name and had my license 3 years.

Cheers, Jamie.

I've got 0 no claims at the minute, but will have 5 years named driving experience claim free and and will be 24 when renewal is due.

Will I need no claims to get a quote on my own name? Cheers @Tony@Greenlight

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for posting.

We do cover loads of Clio models through our long term involvement with Cliosport and Clio197/200. But unfortunately we're not covering drivers under 21 yet, so won't be able to help with your personal Insurance requirement until next time around when you're 21.

Many thanks for thinking of us.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Stevie,

Thanks for posting within our thread.

By being a named driver, unless declared as the main user under that policy throughout, the Insurer will automatically assume that the policyholder (and presumably vehicle owner) was the main user. This effectively means that any driving of the vehicle that you were named upon would have helped to accrue the record/NCB for the policyholder who permitted you to drive their car as a named driver.

We don't currently cover drivers who have not earned at least 1 year's actual NCB in their own name, so will have to wait until next time around.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Chris,

In terms of the 200sx models, providing the vehicle value isn't too low and you've decent recent experience of driving/covering a performance rear wheel drive model (which from memory you definitely had) we should be able to help.

The annual mileage that you cover with the 200sx will be something that can make a big difference to the offers we can provide, so if it's mainly a sunny/fair weather vehicle for you and the 200sx doesn't cover a high mileage, don't forget to mention this if you contact us.

We'd be happy to take a look at this for you, so if you would like to check to see what we can offer you can apply by:

1) Calling our new business team on 01277 650866 (9am - 6pm monday-friday, 9am - 1pm Saturday)
2) Logging onto www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk to apply
3) PM'ing me with your latest contact details and we'll call to run through this with you

It's been a while since we last spoke, so I hope all's been well with you.

Kind regards

Tony

@Tony@Greenlight are you guys still providing cover for UK 200sx?

@Tony@Greenlight

I tried to get a quote through yourselves this morning but as its been over one year from my last 'performance' 300bhp+ car I was unable to proceed.

I have to say the staff were very friendly and unfortunately a daily diesel 2.7 twin turbo didn't work out as satisfactory enough, as it was only just over 200bhp :worried: and my Mazda 3 Mps was 18months ago or so.

I'm disappointed but maybe I'll get back with you next year, it's been almost ten years since my last Cosworth was insured with you, I could hardly believe it!!!

Hi @Tony@Greenlight

My cover with my current insurer is up for renewal on the 06/06, however my cover has gone up in price from last year despite no accidents etc.

Would you be able to cover me on a 2005 MK1 Cupra R Leon? I'm 23 with 5 years NCB. There's a few bits and pieces done on it but nothing too mad.

Cheers

Hi @Tony@Greenlight

Does your company cover a new 330d xDrive? (It will be lowered on AC Schnitzer springs and other cosmetic mods may follow)

Thanks

Hi G4ost,

Thanks for taking the time to post.

Most of our Underwriters will need recent performance car driving experience for their preferentially rated products, which include acceptance criteria and premium concessions based upon your driving experience or ownership of the vehicle.

Thanks for the kind words about your experience with our staff too.

In terms of the driving experience, if you had your Mazda for a while (up until 18 months ago) and have a pedigree for owning and driving performance cars before, this may help a bespoke referral. Especially as you've been driving a vehicle with just over 200bhp, which is decent BHP for a diesel.

If you don't mind PM'ing me your contact details, i'm happy to take a look at this for you. I'll be able review your record with our technical pricing team to see if we can turn that :worried: upside down :grinning:

Kind regards

Tony

P.S. One final thought - You didn''t mention the vehicle model that you're looking to treat yourself to within the post, but to try to completely cover the experience requirement point, our Underwriters do also have a specific rear wheel drive experience requirement when you're looking to cover big BHP rear wheel drive models.

Hi Jonny.92,

Thanks for taking time out to post within our thread.

We can definitely cover the Mk1 Cupra Leon R and your 5 years NCB warrants a 65% discount with most of our Underwriters.

You'll find that our products include a renewal discount to reward existing customer loyalty , in addition to our including tiered discounts for the length of time that you've owned your vehicle.

In addition, we have mileage based products that provide further tiered discounts for drivers who cover less than average road miles across the year.

We'd welcome the opportunity to take a look at this for you and the 'bits and pieces done' would be covered upon a like for like replacement basis in event the individual items were damaged or stolen.

You can apply by:

1) Calling our new business team on 01277 650866
2) Visit www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk and apply online
3) PM me your contact details and we'll call to run through this with you

Hope to hear from you soon (y)

Hi NickR85,

Thanks for posting.

As a firm we've had a bit of a torrid time with performance BMW models over the years, largely due to a combination of the comparatively expensive cost to repair (BMW dealer £140/hr labour before BMW parts) and the bigger BHP/rear wheel drive factor being a problem in winter conditions (or when adopting Top Gear's suggested driving style to test your driving ability around round abouts without the traction control).

The cars themselves really are very well engineered indeed, it's an excellent brand with some great models and do represent the type of vehicle that we'd like to cover. But our problems related to the selected models we covered (most M sport, M3, M5, 135i, 330, Z3M, Z4M) experiencing a comparatively high frequency of theft of vehicles and the single vehicle/loss of control accidents influencing our claims performance. Which resulted in some years, our Underwriters paying out nearly 6 times what they received in premium.

We reached a point where it would be embarrassing (and uncompetitive) to quote the level of premium that we required to cover the models, thus our exclusion seemed a more palatable option.

In Germany, winter tyres are a mandatory requirement (between October and Easter) and have a proven pedigree for helping during winter conditions, which would have helped. But this is not the case in the UK and whilst drivers can voluntary fit these it's not something that we see present upon most of the vehicle's we cover.

With the 4x4 element with the X-Drive models clearly aimed at helping with the winter handling (in a similar way to Audi's "Quattro" system) and as more of these models filter through this is likely to really help to lower the frequency of loss of control accidents. Which in turn will help people like us to alter acceptance criteria and cover these models successfully.

At this stage, it would require a bespoke individual referral to Underwriters for terms for BMW models. Which is possible (and we would have absolutely no issue with the upgraded AC Schnitzer suspension - which would be covered on a like for like replacement basis if damaged), but depending upon the age of your 330d xDrive the value of the vehicle may be too high for our current preferentially rated schemes (which vary from £20,000, £25,000 and £30,000 top end limits).

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Mckeown,

Thanks for posting within our thread.

Having checked with our technical pricing team, unfortunately the 99' Impreza Turbo isn't currently listed as a classic model by any of our available classic car products.

If it's an additional vehicle to you and there's a low mileage requirement, we do have products that can still cover the model competitively and providing you have a decent driving history can also mirror our equivalent discount (ie. 5 years = 65% mirrored NCB) for the NCB years earned upon other policies in your name. Which unlike most classic car policies (which are not NCB rated and do not earn NCB) helps to keep the cost down and means you'll start to accrue a 2nd/additional set of NCB.

Most of these products can also cater for after market modifications or vehicle enhancements (which are covered upon a like for like replacement basis under a repairable/replaceable incident) and also include an option to cater for track day use (£45-£65 per event) in case you're planning a visit to Bishopscourt or Kirkistown.

Hopefully this detail helps (y)

Kind regards

Tony

Would a 99 impreza turbo qualify for classic insurance yet?
