'93 Golf GTi 2.Slow

progress has been slow as I got a bad cold working in the snow and have been sicker than Josef Fritzl on his death bed. The plan was to drop the panels to my dad to prep and paint them and I would do the shell in the workshop but with not feeling well I opted to stay in his heated garage.

Parts started to arrive which is always fun. I got a cold knife to cut the glass out then my side skirts arrived (I feel very nostolgic saying that). They're replicas of the old ABT skirts but have a textured finish so look OEM. I also had planned to do away with the arch trims but with the new colour I think it needs them to break it up so I bought some brand new ones too looks fresh. I got some Forever Black plastic dye to bring up the bumper plastics too.

Last night I laid the paint under the bonnet and inside the doors. After much deciding (I annoyed myself for weeks) I picked in the paint shop and went for my wild card choice of Manila Green (a mk1 Golf colour). It's more like the bonnet than the doors here. I didn't know how it would look til tonight but I think it's gona go well but well need the black trim to break it up. More updates soon

Aye I'd say the colour will be a love hate thing. I wasn't sure at all til I painted some.

Got them from a crowd called optiwerks in America.

I really like the colour. Would even go for a full colour code but im sure you have it all thought out what it will look like.

I've sorta chopped and changed as I went but I do think colour coded would be too much for me. Be interesting to see it done tho lol

On the right track anyway. The outside of the doors and bonnet are done and the bumpers and wings were done today so hopefully keep on trucking.

That is a brave choice lol! Think with black trim etc it could work with polished wheels

Carson I'd love to run the wheels polished but as a daily run about I'd never keep them. I'm gona go bright silver just.

I've been doing silly amounts of overtime this week and came to mum and dads today to find this. All ready for sanding and buffing

Thanks lads. Slowly getting there.

With being sick for 2 weeks then work picking up and doing between 13hr and 15hr days I've got very little done the past few weeks.

We've started wet sanding and getting through it rightly. Few parts we broke through on but being a solid colour it'll be easy blew in. Just a bit annoying. Took a few pics of the bonnet and wing after a quick pass with the buff. Needs a lot more refining but gives you an idea. I still can't get a proper pic of the colour lol

Also broke out the forever black bumper dye I bought a few weeks back to try on the front bumper. This stuff gets very good reviews. I don't know the durability of it but the initial finish is great. It looks like new. This bumper had white stress marks and in 2 coats they're 99% gone. Well pleased.

Also I love the black against this colour

Don't like it yet Alan I haven't got a proper pic of the colour yet lol. It's closer to the pics of the wing there.

Good good, those pics are pretty good. When I get round to it, I didn't know whether to keep the trim or go down the CL trim route.

I had originally planned to do away with them as I replaced the back arches. I even bought cl side strips then came round to the idea of keeping the gti trim to break up the loud colour.

The trims are actually outa euro.

Slow progress still but getting there. Just been sanding and buffing this week when I've the chance. Not a bad shine I'm happy with it.

I got my grill bits finished and snapped them back onto the frame. I ordered a new badge and received a black one but I like it so it's staying. Nice to see the grill and bumper together so get an idea of it.

Dyed my rear bumper and spoiler too. The bumper again I'm well happy with but the spoiler didn't take the Forever Black well at all. Turned out streaky. Ah well.

@Fatman and I cut the bootlid glass out and it's to be painted tomorrow then it's on to the shell.

Cheers lads. Adrian I've actually got a yellow one (yellow was the colour I picked first) but I'm gona dye the middles and doorcards to match this green. I think the original green colour concept seats would be too dark of a green for this. But your on to my plans lol
