Hit the road from Paddington in London on Friday morning at 10am, arrived in cairnryan at 17:35 and got the 19:30 ferry to Belfast.

Weather was lovely, all in all it was an enjoyable drive up the road!

You must have taken the scenic route, did you...?

Heading from Belfast to Southampton via cairnryan on fri night with a van and trailer.

Any tips on routes, possible roadworks or decent service stations. M6 then M5?

M40 > A34 would be the straightforward way.

There aren't any 'decent' service stations really, though you could call into the Fleece (M6 J42). About 2 hours from Cairnryan.

After that there's plenty of services and garages but get ready to open your wallet.

You'll also see your fair share of roadworks over there, doesn't matter which way you go.

Lots of roadworks and temporary 50mph limits all over. Best tip is use a good SAT-NAV and sit at 53mph on the NAV speed and you'll be 100%

In a van and trailer at night yes very realistic. Get a good run you might do 7 hours during the night
