I didnt say that they arnt fast, but look at the amount that needs to be done to make them fast!!! And lots of car companies now have to use ridiculously large engines to extract decent power because of emmissions limitations.

anyway lets keep on topic? cosworths - rally bred classic or all hype?

In their day the were one of the fastest point to point cars about. Now days a standard one isn't up to much BUT they are easily tunable and everything is tried and tested. However look at how many new products are developed for Cossies, loads. There is always something new/some new way of tuning them being invented.

How much??? 60 grand??? Thats supercar league mate. Cossies were 24 grand new! Oh and an Fq400 will never hold its money like an escort cossie will!! Why??

dont get me wrong its an awesome piece of machinery but just isnt a patch on todays offerings and lets face it an esc cos is much the same price as a 300 factory hp evo7

Yes but you will make the cossie twice as quick for a fraction of the price. Oh and what about a sierra - 3 - 5 k for a 4x4

If Ford hadn't done the silly thing and got Cosworth to detune the YB to 204 bhp when they first designed it, they would have whipped the ass off todays offerings.

Look i'm not trying to be cheeky here but that "you can buy a brand new blah blah blah for the same price a cosworth" just doesn't hold water. Cosworths and indeed all RS fords are a pure enthuiast car, normal pricing simply does not apply to them. For example a mk 1 RS shell - good one is worth around £6-£7000 and thats for a bare 30 years old shell.

very true good bang for buck but at that money the jap cars (200sx/gtir/rough gts skyline) are just as quick and mostly more reliable.

A nice saph cossie with black leather tho - oooo be real nice car.

Its worth what someone will pay! Not an AE86 for me, but i would pay the cash for a es-cos. Just another point. If you buy the evo and want to tune, you will have to take it to a specialist tuner to get it set-up and mapped etc. With a cossie you just buy the bits, fit them and fire in whatever bayjoo chip that suits - and it just works. Everybit as well as the evo! Cossies more fun though because it feels a bit more un-tamed!

i was always a big big ford fan and even restored to concours std a sapphire cosworth 10 yes ago
the engines i think are so soft and unreliable its untrue
after all they really are a twincam cortina with a blower
nearly everyone needed engines at 50000 miles if they even got that far due to headgaskets piston slap valve stem oil seals etc etc etc the list goes on and on
std i think very few even had 204 bhp
yes they are very very tunable but so unreliable when tuned u will be rebuilding them every 10000 miles
peters escort has a 10 k engine which doesnt get driven that hard and has better than the best components thats why its lasted
as for escort cosworths i really dont see the facination of them at all
they look wow but drive really average dont handle in std trim at all have poor brakes suspension wears in about 30000 miles and generally falls to bits
if ur lucky enough that it doesnt blow up and most escorts and late sierras if left std shouldnt the gearbox will **** it self if it is even remotely tuned
at least the jap stuff even thought they disslove with rust can generally stay togeather for 100000 miles if left alone without as much as a oil leak
still love the look of all the cosworth stuff but think u would be shocked to just how slow they all are in std trim to modern cars
keep it forever thought as they are always ford anoraks who will give it all for them

Each to their own, but and dont get me wrong I think evos are brilliant and I love my gtir - etc. But Ive never been impressed by any of them as much as I have been by a cossie! A cossie is just a homologated heap of junk that ford threw together, but it turned out so well that you just gotta love it. Mitsi have spend years of development and testing to build the latest evo's and they build them very well. I love when u get in a sierra and it looks all old and crap, but then pins you down in your seat like no evo does!!!

Depends how their built. Davey Francis's 450bhp G4T ex-rallycross car was built real well with wire ringed bottom end etc and it never gave any bother!! Its still running 100%. Its also one of the most impressive cars ive ever seen. Metro1800 will vouch for it he's seen it many times!

Ive edited this cos i couldnt be arsed arguing with you!

peters escort has a 10 k engine which doesnt get driven that hard and has better than the best components thats why its lasted

I was out in peters escort yesterday and believe me it is driven hard, VERY VERY HARD. Bounced off the limiter and lanuched VERY HARD!!!! And he said to me it gets driven like that all the time. Its done 20,000 miles so far and he has never had 1 problem with it.

if ur lucky enough that it doesnt blow up and most escorts and late sierras if left std shouldnt the gearbox will **** it self if it is even remotely tuned

Peter is running a standard box.

Rebuilds arent exactly expensive nowadays either - Unless you are building it stronger etc...
