Yeah, that's what flags it up for me. Its the confusion around the incident and miss matching stories from the different parties.

In F1, there is usually pretty good reasons why certain things happen, thats why the cars have black boxes. For example, Bianchi applied full throttle to the full braking force he had already applied, just before impact in his incident. Almost everyone agrees that he braced himself in the footwell with his right foot as well as his left, applying full force to both pedals.

In this case, both the FIA and McL say they don't really know why he crashed. he applied full braking force in the middle of the track, on the exit of a bend, stopped applying steering input and hit the wall side on. Button, who looked at the telemetry said that the incident was 'very strange', Vettel who was right behind him said "The speed was slow - maybe 150kph. Then he turned right into the wall. It looked strange."

I really hope it was something less serious, but the confusion around the whole incident is worrying.

Im almost sure i read about that, in an F1 car pressing both fully cuts the car off so likely an automatic reaction to those guys.

That's probably why the cars have the lights above the roll-hoop to indicate the state of charge/discharge in the battery system.

Not going at all well this 'New Era' for McLaren-Honda.

In light of the crazy Van Der Garde court case taking place in Aus, 1 week before the start of the season, Sauber have released the steering wheel that he paid to be behind (according to the Swiss courts) but will most likely never see from inside the cockpit.

It looks like you need to be a lawyer to get a seat and a barrister to understand the steering wheel these days.

In other news, manorGP's chassis is ready and in Aus and Roberto Merhi has been named as their second driver that will be pootling around at the back of the grid scraping inside the 107% rule with Will Stevens.

I'd say Manor will have a few of drivers over the course of the season.

An experienced driver would certainly help them.

So it seems that Giedo van der Garde has won his case... 'application was successful and it will be enforced'.

No official word yet on who he will replace for Melbourne.

Talk about awkward…

Seems only right from my reading of it and my very limited legal knowledge to be honest. A swiss court already found in his favor and Sauber just said they had no time to fit him into the car so he couldn't race. He was planning to take the case to the courts in every juristiction that they travelled to race this year and I wonder if Sauber will give him one race on the back of the decision and then resort back to their drivers of choice.

I doubt he will even race in a Sauber to be honest, it is in noones interests for him to race really. Along with the awkwardness, he is unprepaired and would/could Sauber really give him 100% backing.

Sauber will probably try and strike a deal to repay all the money and wash their hands of it or be very resentful and just retire the car from the grid on safety grounds etc.

This is exactly what will happen in the end. Just a matter of who runs out of money for lawyers first... Could go on for a while.

He will not race a Sauber for all the reasons mentioned above.

The whole thing seems a bit stupid by all parties to be honest.

Giedo van der Garde is legally entitled to take up a seat in the Sauber F1 team this season, after the Swiss team's appeal against that claim was thrown out by the courts.

The court in Melbourne had already ruled in van der Garde's favour, saying that the team had backed out of a deal to run its 2014 test and reserve driver this season, and took little time to reject Sauber's appeal, despite the fact that doing so could place the team in financial jeopardy.

Having decided to press ahead without regard to van der Garde's claim on one of its two seats, Sauber hired the pairing of Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr, both of whom bring a fair amount of sponsorship to the cash-strapped Sauber organisation. Now, in order to obey the court ruling, the team has to make room for van der Garde, at the risk of breaking another contract and, in all likelihood, costing itself more than just sponsorship dollars as the risk of further legal action piles up on the costs already incurred in attempting to preserve its favoured line-up.

Sauber has already accepted a $10m advance payment from FOM in order to ensure its presence in Australia for this weekend's opening round, but paddock rumours suggest that it may consider sitting out the Melbourne race claiming, amongst other things, that the C34 has not been designed or fitted to accommodate van der Garde.

Software could delay Manor's running

The Manor team's running in the Australian Grand Prix could be delayed by software issues.
Against all the odds, Manor made it to Australia and on Thursday both cars passed scrutineering for the 2015 season opener.

But the team might not be able to run in Melbourne, according to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, which reports all the software from the team's computers was cleared for the auction that was planned before the last-minute rescue deal.

Manor might now run out of time to re-install all the data before it can begin running with the updated 2014 cars and Ferrari engines.

"Manor may also need to pay some bills before the engine software is even released," the report claims.

Manor has not taken part in winter testing and its cars have not run since last year's Russian Grand Prix in October.

The team has signed Roberto Merhi and Will Stevens for this season.
