Honda putting in the laps again (y)

Times way down, but great to see them getting longer runs.

Honda hasn't been out on track today.. Seems they have a lot of work to do for the start of the season...

Lunchtime update – Day Four

-McLaren-Honda makes first appearance just five minutes before lunch, completing just two laps.

-Bottas sets the pace with a 1:23.063 on the supersoft compound. Ferrari four-tenths slower on same compound.

-Red Bull stops at the end of pitlane just over an hour into the session and hasn’t reappeared since.

-Sauber and Mercedes continue to rack up the miles with Nasr completing 72 laps and Rosberg 69.

red bull livery looks much the same as last year, thought they might switch it up a bit.

Thats awful, was looking forward to see how he would get on in the new car. Must have been a lot more serious than what has been in the press.

I read that it's due to the fact that Australia will be only 19 days after his testing crash, doctors have insisted on 21 days out of the car.

After what happened with Jules Bianchi, nobody wants to take any risks.

Sounds like people "erring on the side of caution".

A real shame though, more so if it turned out to be mainly CYA reasons. But the doctors' call at the end of the day, as it should be. They have all the facts.

So, what are peoples take on the whole Alonso Accident? was he "blown" off the track?

Ralf Bach (http://f1-insider.com/formel-1-boykott-wegen-alonso-unfall/) and Sky Italia are pushing the electrocution route very hard. McL were having issues with seals on the MGU-K and had already replaced it once and had further issues. The telemetry indicates that Alonso done nothing for the 3 seconds prior to impact .... no braking and no steering input, which was substantiated by Vettel traveling directly behind the McL.

There seems to be a lot of evidence pointing towards electrocution. Alonso still thought he was a Ferrari driver when he was out of the car, despite the g-meter in his ear only recording 16G and there being no damage to the cockpit area of the car. Bottas recorded a reading of 30G (in ear) last season and walked away ok. Supposedly one of the effects of electrocution is memory loss and confusion.

All seems very strange to me anyway, id be interested in others thoughts.

Ooooh, a conspiracy, lol :grinning:

I doubt anyone can cover up anything in F1. If it were something other than driver error and a bump on the head, then that is what everyone would have said.

Personally I would trust FIA crash investigators, and doctors, over Sky Italia or any other sensationalist reporting.

And being confused is a grade A symptom of having taken a bump on the head :p

As for the "ban" in Australia, it seems to be more to do with doctors not wanting him to risk a second bump so soon after. Seemed to be a reasonable hit, at 135mph, so maybe sensible.

Either something has been missed by the FIA or McLaren are not sharing all they know.

Eric Boullier said that Alonso was concussed then Ron Dennis said he wasn't.

It's one thing a driver crashing, it happens, but it's quite another when a driver is electrocuted & knocked out thus having no control over his car.

Let's hope it wasn't the latter, and if it was they have fixed the problem so it does not happen again. I would say if it was electrocution they would have suspended all testing surely they couldn't risk it as it would be a chassis problem for there's current to travel not just an NGU-K problem?

There is a wee bit of difference between electricity/lightening hitting a car and being electrocuted in a F1 car lol

Yeah, that's what flags it up for me. Its the confusion around the incident and miss matching stories from the different parties.

In F1, there is usually pretty good reasons why certain things happen, thats why the cars have black boxes. For example, Bianchi applied full throttle to the full braking force he had already applied, just before impact in his incident. Almost everyone agrees that he braced himself in the footwell with his right foot as well as his left, applying full force to both pedals.

In this case, both the FIA and McL say they don't really know why he crashed. he applied full braking force in the middle of the track, on the exit of a bend, stopped applying steering input and hit the wall side on. Button, who looked at the telemetry said that the incident was 'very strange', Vettel who was right behind him said "The speed was slow - maybe 150kph. Then he turned right into the wall. It looked strange."

I really hope it was something less serious, but the confusion around the whole incident is worrying.

Tin foil at the ready folks, making a hat as we speak :p

Though, on second thought, a tin foil hat might not be appropriate in this case - maybe should find an old rubber mat or something to make it of instead :innocent:

Amazing to watch how the Interweb goes into full hype mode, always trying to "explain" complete non-issues, lol :grinning: Or worse, a bunch of Interweb self-appointed armchair "experts", digging through partial data they have no idea how to interpret, and then dreaming up their own pet "theories". All just to drive "hits" and "clicks" on their websites, and cash in on Google ads or whatever.

The poor man was driving hard, had a crash, and got a bump on his head. That really is all there is to it :grinning:
