:joy:

Bad news, but also good news.

It failed. The guy said the stickers where fine but not accurate. Basically he’s tall and I’m a short arse so they didn’t sit in the right place for him.

I drove up the road to Michael at OMA (Subaru Specialist). He was ripping, even tried to ring the MOT centre to give off. :joy:
Michael told me to book another retest. I got one for 1.05pm. He pulled the speedo out, removed the glass and put in his template that he uses all time.
It passed this time!
I had to then go back to OMA where he had to do it all again to get his template back. (All FOC btw, apart from a promise of a free pint once the pubs open again 🤣)

So happy days! Next year it’s going to OMA and he can do it all for me. 🤦‍♂️

I stuck mine over the glass on the chaser as it’s heavily tinted so you couldn’t see them on the actual dials. I bought a proper stick set from eBay though, your first attempt was rash as ***** let’s be honest 😁

lol the original one was awful. zero surprise it failed but the replacement IMO is only marginally better, with it showing 20 kph actually higher on the gauge than 20 mph........and 100kph showing as 80mph when it should be 62mph.

at least it's through!

I love that if you were in Ireland with that template on the motorway you'd be sat at 95mph!
Standard issue anyway even when the kms are accurate (always told to keep below 160km/100mph)

But yeah,
Your stickers aren't accurate!
OK here's better looking stickers that are less accurate....
Welcome to a fresh year's worth of motoring!

I had to go down the Lockwood Outback dial set for my BL5 twinscroll and cut off the factory speedo to replace with the Outback one as the rev counter had a rather embarrassing redline! Those stick on numbers SHOULD be fine if they're stuck to the dial face and not the cluster lens, they don't work in a tinted cluster as dark as mine unfortunately. I've got factory fitted HIDs and had to do the T piece off the headlight washer as well, which wasn't wired up, but passed on being present! The fact she has Bilstein suspension hopefully means the arse doesn't drop too much when laden but there's no self levelling. I passed in Downpatrick a week and a half ago btw.

This was my 2004 Impreza . I covered the ‘k’ to make it mile per hour as the importer had calibrated that way. I got a set of Uk clocks and cut the white numbers and kmh. The importer had originally used orange stickers and were not backlit so hard to see and I was failed by mallusk mot for them.

This is what mine looked like with orange stickers, at full brightness, due to the black tinted lens 😒

Is this still a thing or have the 'people in power' amended the wording? Cousin failed his MOT for no washers on factory HID , but I've never personally had any issues for my cars

Have found no matter how stupid the fail ur never getting them to change it once its failed. Do as they’ve asked or let the retest expire and try somewhere else.

Don't even need to let the retest expire, just go somewhere else that day or the next day or whatever. Once had my Jimny fail on modified control arms (had welded strengthening to them) which is fair enough if it was a repair but it wasn't and a technical fail. Guy was having none of it, so fair enough fine for 4 years previous just not this one. Booked another centre in the car park as I left, drove straight there and passed.

I'm crossing this bridge soon when my Legacy Twinscroll arrives from Japan, but the stickers are a risk also as they aren't backlit so again they are a fail. There is a Lockwood set available for my car, but that leaves the speedometer maxing out at 110mph.

Looks like a complete cluster swap is the best solution for me, but that involves desoldering the ROM chips from the old and new clusters and transferring the Immobilizer information between them, which is also a nightmare

I’ll be having to look at this too next year when the jdm bug goes for MOT over hear as its first one was done when it arrived in England in January. There’s also xenons on it 😬

In saying this I MOTd the last jdm impreza in December before selling it and there were no stickers on the speedo and it passed. I think it depends who you get on the day too.
