sorry guys progress has been slow due to saving for a wedding..... then deciding to buy an m5.......then got the head beat of me by the wife for buying an m5 lol.... but now im back on track.

car currently is sitting in the paintshop whilst i sit around trying to figure out what colour i want to paint it. work has begun on the suspension and engine components. the old suspension arms and subframe have been acid dipped then galvanised to prevent rusting again. ill let the pics to the talking

made a mock up of the engine to fitting, the solex carbs will be removed at a later stage to fit twin 40's or 45's. on mocking up the engine I come across a slight issue though. The 5speed gearbox I have got is ceased so Ill have to do a little investigating to find out why. The rocker cover has also been sent to the paintshop to be sprayed the same colour as the car.

Cool Project, can't beat oldschool Jap cars

Love the Blue on the car on the 1st page of this thread. Have you decided on colour yet?

ok folks. heres the latest update. due to getting married a few weeks progress has been slow on this.

fitting all the panels to ensure all matches and lines up perfectly.

AND THE COLOUR!

in the dark

plan now is to put the car in black primer and bring back to the garage. Fit all the engine components and suspension and have the car rolling then paint it. This will prevent marking the new paintwork whilst fitting the parts.

So wrong doing a classic car a modern colour but by feck the shape of the celica will suit it PERFECTLY

Not sure I agree, as long as its not a crazy or bold colour, Midnight Purple or Bayside Blue would be wrong, but not a normal blue like this.

Awesome man. Love the colour choice.(y)
This thread and the Datusn 260z build on here are the 2 builds I've been most looking forward to see finished.

the unfortunate thing with the celica is that the original colours where very bland. there was a nice light blue that my car originially came in but I would prefer a dark colour. The car is not going to be standard so I havent opted for a standard colour. Very little will be kept original.
I do understand there are people who would perfer classics to be kept original but myself personally, I believe they look stunning but just need a modern twist on them.

thanks folks for the comments

agree fully but it is model dependant, a road going mk2 escort for eg would look terrible in that GTR colour, the celica will suit it though

Great to see it looking like a car again, Can not wait to see the paint in the sun. No need to rush it. Give me a shout when you get it back to your garage so i can get a look around it
