I'm hoping that sense has prevailed & it was a remote camera that was on the outside of the corner with a bag below it. If the spectator was actually there, it was inevitable

Oh crap, looking at it again he was indeed on the ground at the corner, can see him in the in car shot, explains how paddon knew he was there and pointing him to others when he got out.

Not good, really wish people would be more careful where they put themselves :worried:

I really hope the rumours I am hearing now aren't true. It doesn't sound good for the spectator :worried:

Just heard the same things and it really doesn't sound good. It's coming from too many sources now I feel and it's not the news any of us wanted to hear.

Belgium media outlets are now carrying the news too.

NO idea if this is accurate or true...its a comment on that youtube video:

"He died 1 minute after accident.
"We were just ten meters higher in the special stage. We had seen the guy post his Go Pro on the road and climb up one meter in the embankment, " testifies for the DH Romain. "We all shouted at him and told him not to stay there. It was thought that after two cars he would realize that he was badly put ... When Paddon arrived, the car slipped, squatted before the left and tapped the slope. The guy was broke, crushed by the car before flying and dropping his head down on the road. A firefighter on site as a spectator tried to do a cardiac massage. He still had a pulse for a minute and then nothing. Relief took an incredible amount of time to arrive. We were a mile from the finish but they did not want to get the ambulance up since the finish. She had to come in the direction of the special, probably from the start. We stayed more than twenty minutes waiting for the ambulance. The guy had been dead for a long time even though the fireman told us he had to massage until the doctors arrived and could not officially say he had died. We talked with John Kennard, Paddon's crewman, and he could not get over the slowness of the relief. It's just that. That said, it would not have changed for him. It is sad, especially for the rally because we will say that the new WRC are dangerous, that we returned to the era of Group B, while this has nothing to have. It's just a beast out of a pilot on an ice sheet. "

That's in the Belgium media at the minute @Graham and reported as coming from some Belgium clio cup racer I think it was. Sad news and not the way anyone wanted to start the new era.

Just notice the replay seems removed from the TV guide at 10:30pm on BT sport 2

Very sad news if true, and RIP to involved :worried:

Absolutely devastating news to family, Paddon and the sport. In a modern day era where go pros can be controlled over phone, cameras over triggers this is UNACCEPTABLE.

Statement from the race director:
SS1 has been cancelled due to the crash of Paddon and Kennard. The crew is unharmed. A spectator passed out. The emergency services have been called to rescue him. SS2 is maintained as expected at 11.07 p.m.

Was just about to post the same! Quicker again at 3rd split so looking good for him.

In contrast Latvala isn't, 15s down at 2nd split!

Ogier must be taking it cautious, Tanak is only 1s down on Theirry at the 1st split.

Hayden Paddon tweeted

Not the way we wanted to start - caught out by black ice near the end of the stage. The car snapped sideways and then we were a passenger. Not so much damage to the car but sorry for the team who put in so much work to get here.
