Its an average job to be honest. Wish I had the patience to let each lacquer coat dry properly. Im properly kicking myself about the couple of runs on the insides of a couple of spokes. Its a shed anyways I suppose but you know your self its nice to do things right.
Its nice to get things right but also nice feeling of acomplishment doing things yourself.

Project ‘red neck Heep’ took a giant leap forward today.
Lift kit fitted
Spacers fitted
New brake pads all round
New rear springs to eliminate the sag from years of hard towing.
Wheels fitted

Drives just as well after the work if a little more tyre road noise but when it comes to nasty field entrances im not gonna have an issue now. Due to the pivot point the actual height of lift is considerable and I have to climb up into it now. I only really noticed how high it was when my son easily crawled under in it the driveway and I was sitting at traffic lights earlier looking down into a pickup truck beside me. My son is ecstatic about it which is a bonus. I get full lock with zero rub and still tuck tread enough I think its still legal.
Wife has started calling me cleetus so i must buy a vest and chew a piece of grass at all times.

My spare michelin and alloy arrieved. Ebay bargains 8 quid for the wheel and 20 quid for the tyre. So that will fill the void on the back door well when I get round to painting it black.

Plans are to fit a very agricultural diy constructed bull bar painted texture black. I want a pull out awning for when im at the caravan so need roof rails and when I am that far most likely a big dirty light bar for the winter drawing in. I also fitted a set of kenwoods in the rear doors so thats all speakers replaced. I need an amp to power my sub and then I may also fit a fridge and a bench chainsaw sharpner (sorry if there is typos I rattled this out on my phone sitting in the sun)

Might be the last update for a while as I am going to pilot this thing to my sisters house in swindon next week. Had the allignment checked this morning which due to lots of things being changed was way out. The man on the alignment machine was not a happy bunny but all sorted now.

Spare wheel sprayed tyre mounted.

Dosed in tyre dressing to protect form the sun.
Ebay is the winner £8 for the wheel and £20 for the tyre.
Cheers

Looks awesome. As good if not better than those ones on YouTube on the gnarly tyres (which seem impressive off road!)

Do you know if one of these could tow a horse box with a big horse and a pony inside? Or would I need a full size SUV for that sort of weight?

Thanks. To keep your self right the crv has a max towing weight of 2 tons. You may need a bigger wagon for your needs.

Should cover it.

800-900kg for a twin horse box, say 500kg for a big horse and 350-400kg for a pony would see you under the 2000kg limit.

Thanks @j44nty and @Nicky Just trying to see if it's worth looking at the CRV/Freelander sized stuff or just go for the ML/Cherokee sized. Family have towed a single box with a Rav4 for years with no issue, but adding a pony I wasn't sure could still get away with the smaller option.

Headlight refurb:
What you will need
Sand paper 400,800,1500,2000,2500
Cutting compound g3
Refining compound I used megs ultimate

If you dont have a rotary then something like this will do you well.
19Pcs 3" Sponge Buff Polishing Pads For Car Polisher Waxing M10 Drill Adapter | eBay
Im sure @Woodcutter could supply something local which would be better than chinese nonsense.

First up my lights are in line with the bonnet so lots of years abuse cleaning leaves them yellow and marked badly

First up the wet and dry.
I like wet sanding and clay baring with baby shampoo just an old habit I have.

Squirt of lube over the light then start rubbing it down. I dont like going right into the corners as they can be a pain to buff out later. After maybe 5 passes over the light in small circular motions i give them another squirt and wipe off with a clean microfiber. Repeat the process increasing the passes the finer the paper and you can spend quite a while rubbing thw final 2500 to make sure you have removed the previous paper marks.

I had an old 3m yellow pad and black pad lying spare they were clean enough for this job so with a couple of pea sized deops of g3 on the yellow pad and mist of water. I buffed the light up to a shine. I then hit it with megs ultimate compound only because i hadnt used it before and thought it would take out the g3 haze. It worked perfectly with the black pad if a little soft but done the job.

Waxed them with fusso soft 99 for a bit of uv protection.
Happy with the outcome. Anyone could do this simple task just some materials and set aside an hour or so.
Cheers
Raining so the pics arent perfect but you get the idea

No missing this truck now :grinning:

I can donate a Kenwood amp if you want it? It's from a Iceman install I had in my Toledo! Was only in about 6 months, and it's sat in the cupboard ever since. Not sure on the specs, but I can find it and take a look.
