Raikkonen has already beat the fastest lap of the Barcelona race last season on a 10 lap+ run on the hard winter testing tires, but the time has been removed for some reason. Times on different tyres etc but nevertheless, all things point towards the cars being considerably faster this season.

Button has put 12 laps on the Honda, at a reasonable pace. its looking like a much more successful test for them so far already.

Hamilton has had to pull out of the test due to being 'unwell'. Pascal Wehrlein will be recalled from FI and will take over after lunch. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/117729?_ga=1.154575548.582257755.1418304015

Cheers for the link. BBC Sport have their updates jumbled into their sports day updates rather than having one just for f1 testing.

Ah well, still a stumble forward it seems. And they will still be running tomorrow anyway it seems, just maybe going easy and keeping a close eye on things.

This is what testing is all about, breaking stuff.

Easy life being an F1 driver - a couple of laps in the morning, then the rest of the day off :p

Marussia/Manor took another step towards the 2015 grid today - they have agreed a CVA (Company Voluntary Agreement) which sees them exit administration.

Also heard they had a crash test booked for early March (They must race in Australia to get 2014 prize money)

Why, Marrusia earned it for finishing 9th in the constructors, I found it funny that Force India blocked Manor from running a 2014 car and they turn up to the second test in theirs lol

I laughed at that as well [emoji2]

At least give ManorGP a chance, if they don't make the race then cheerio but imagine if Brawn hadn't have been given the chance to compete in the 2009 season.

Maybe Mercedes are involved at Manor like they where at Brawn :grinning:

Coops said . " heard they had a crash test booked for early March (They must race in Australia to get 2014 prize money)"

Not true. .any team can miss THREE races and still not be in breach of contract in any one season . .

Despite the best efforts of Force India, the Manor F1 team is still hoping to be in action in 2015, although the team obviously cannot now use modified 2014 cars. This is a setback, but in reality the 2015 car was always going to be something of a carry over from last year’s MR03, with changes made to tidy up problem areas and to meet the new rules. The team is believed to have retained the design data for the car, despite some of its computers having been sold at auction and it always had access to the original Dinnington facility, so losing Banbury was not as big a setback as one imagine. The Ferrari-powered MNR1 has to go through all the manufacturing and crash-testing phases and that is not going to be easy in the time available, even if there is money in place. The team can increase its staff fairly rapidly, but it will need to pay over the odds to get suppliers back on side and willing to do the work in a hurry. Many suppliers were not paid last year and are going to be asking for cash up front and all of them are likely to favour the big teams over the smaller operations, an inevitable problem, which is one of the things that has been holding Force India back in recent weeks.
The team has the right to miss three races in a season without losing its benefits and so the focus is getting the cars to Shanghai on April 12. The choice of race is rather dictated by the logistics as the freight from Shanghai would go directly to Bahrain, which the first race that the team MUST attend. The team can go on building its cars in China if that is required and it may also be possible to stretch that a little further as the definition of the word “participate” in the secret bilateral agreements that currently govern the sport, allows a certain of leeway. In order to be deemed to have participated in an event a team must make the cars available for scrutineering and make “all reasonable endeavours” to ensure that they are ready to race. If completed cars are presented, but for example cannot race because they still have to pass crash tests the team would have a decent argument for “reasonable endeavours”. If scrutineering is deemed to be participation, the team will be fine as this would win it another three weeks and the racing could begin in Spain on May 10. It is unlikely after such a start that Manor would challenge for points but reliability is key in a place like Monaco and so nothing is impossible. In any case the team will remain in the top 10 teams in 2015 and 2016 because of the way the prize funds work. Haas F1 will turn up in 2016 and so there is a danger that Manor might lose its benefits in 2017 or 2018 but new teams don’t tend to just wander in and be competitive straight away so the Manor business plan is strong enough. By then, the investors hope, F1 will have changed enough to give the teams value and more chances for success. Lunatic spending cannot go on forever…

The manufacturer prize money is there for teams actually competing the following season. Which is why you have to actually field an actual car the following season to collect the money. Otherwise it gets distributed to the teams actually competing.

Showing up with a broke team, with no money and lord only knows what "driver", wasting space in a pitlane garage, with an out of date and out of regs car, and zero development and testing, just to scrape in that "prize" money for the creditors before promptly going bust again... Well, that is hardly making an effort to compete, is it?

That money is far better spent on the likes of Sauber and Force India, who are on the ropes too but at least try to compete, than on greedy team owners and administrators at Manor GP.

Sauber and Force India are on the ropes too, would be surprised if they last more than another season the way the sport is being run at the moment. But at least they are there this year, so let them have that "prize money". It would help them no end.

Obviously, if Force India cannot field a car either, then they will go too. Still makes it right to block Manor GP unless they actually intend to compete.

Maurizio Arrivabene says Ferrari have an agreement to supply Manor F1 with 2014 engines but no written contract yet, be no surprise to see one of their young drivers get a seat.

Nico Rosberg is going to be a Dad in August.

Alonso has crashed his McLaren this morning, he's okay thankfully.

Button was due to drive this afternoon but not sure if he'll be able to now, depending on the damage to the car.

Fernando Alonso has been airlifted to hospital after crashing heavily during the final morning of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Just fifteen minutes before the end of the session, Alonso lost control of his McLaren-Honda MP4-30 on the exit of the fast turn three right-hander and is reported struck the inside wall in what was described as a sizeable shunt.

Tended to by ambulance crews initially, Alonso was taken to the medical centre, where he was reported to be 'OK and conscious'. However, he has now been taken to hospital by helicopter for further checks.

A statement issued by McLaren confirmed the hospital visit is 'precautionary'.

"Today at 12:35 CET, while testing at the Circuit de Catalunya (Barcelona), during the fourth and final day of the current test, Fernando Alonso's McLaren-Honda car left the track at Turn Three, causing the right-hand side of his car to strike the wall.

"Fernando was driven to the circuit's Medical Centre where the circuit's doctors gave him first aid.

"He was conscious and spoke with the doctors.

"However, as per usual procedure in such circumstances, he was then airlifted to hospital where he is undergoing precautionary checks.

"We will issue a further update in due course."

Though it remains unclear the exact circumstances of the incident, images show the McLaren having come to a halt alongside the barrier side-on appearing relatively intact.

The McLaren is returned to the pit lane looking fairly intact from this angle... #F1 pic.twitter.com/Gx3k8JgLAB

"We just got the result of the CT scan and he is uninjured and fine," McLaren have just told us.

…and Button thinks McLaren can win a race this year ^o)

Egg & Spoon race maybe!

Be interesting to see what caused the crash, as Vettel said it wasn't a high speed off. Car failure of some sort.
