Wow he is soooooo lucky to survive that. Horrendous. Imagine sitting in that car after such an impact, surrounded by fire and trying to get your belts off and out when you can’t even see! Brutal.
If all he has is minor burns on wrists/ankles and a few broken ribs he can thank the engineers and safety people. Arguably one of the bigger crashes F1 has ever seen and he walked away!
Crazy first few laps, monstrous crash and a flipped car. Seriously glad Grosjean wasn’t knocked unconscious by that impact, dread to think if he had of been. Cockpit and Halo doing the job it was designed for that’s for sure, even though it’s impossible to test for such a strange crash.
McLaren done good today, would really like to see them get 3rd overall. Vettel completely dropped off the pace during the start and middle of the race.
Wow! Grosjean has gone from Halo hater to Halo lover and rightly so! How he survived that is beyond me! Impact at 221kmh experiencing 53g on his body, overcoming that to somehow finding the right way out of his harness and past a wrecked (half of) car through a wall of flames?!?
A true miracle!
Not a lot left to say, Hamilton still with his foot firmly on the gas chasing every win like it’s his first. Bottas now in real danger of losing second place in the championship with this sub-par driving.
Good to see young Albon up on the podium, hopefully he carries the confidence gained from this race through the rest of the season, for all that’s left.
To be fair he gets all the bad luck and as brundle rightly pointed out Merc design their car to be at the front not fighting in traffic so they suck at following.
That was an unbelievable crash, it's a miracle he got out of that one, the Halo, the Marshalls, the Medical car, everything was in the right place at the right time. The 12 KG Titanium Halo absolutely done it's job no question. Great work by the Medical car crew, it seemed like the Marshall couldn't get the fire extinguisher to work until Dr Roberts ran and helped him pull the pin, that was a scary few seconds to watch. I'm confident there will be lots of changes after this, for the better and thank God someone didn't lose a life or get severely injured.
It's a reminder that F1 drivers have never been in a race where they couldn't die. It seems like a perfectly fitting time for Grosjean to retire and enjoy his wife & 3 little kids.
Yea, he should pull the plug on his F1 career. Potentially his entire motorsport career. He will physically recover but who knows what mental scars will be left.
no way would he be fit physically in 2 weeks to cover the last 2 races. might as well just call it now, take some time and then think about whats next. He wont be back to F1 you wouldnt think
