Plenty of bars in that cage! I take it this means you are going stage rallying? Plenty more expensive months ahead then, fair play to you.
Any idea of what donkey you'll use?
Not really sure. I don’t have the money to go full on rallying. The tyre bill alone was £600 odd for a day in shackleton with the mk2.
I’ve a k20 here for it and a brand new atlas axle. Need to get a 4 link kit and a crossmember for it
Yeah, I hear you, tyres were £600 odd for going to a targa in wales in the mx5 lol, never mind the boat, entry fees and accommodation etc.
K20 will be a good motor as a reliable unit that will take abuse too. Sounds like it will be a great build.
Going arched or original?
I was going to leave it original as the arches are immaculate but to run the atlas and either 13s or 15s I’ll need arches. Will be turreting the rear but not tubbed.
Looks like most of the fun for you is the build, and a lash round Aghadowey being the cherry on the cake. Great story and pictures mate. Very envious of your work - great to see, keep it coming
Spent Mother’s Day morning collecting a set of Gartrac grp4 tarmac suspension. Alloy hubs, ap discs for 15”, tarmac inserts and springs, steering arms and grp4 fabrications WRC type lower tcas for tension strut setup.
A 950mile round trip to England started on Wednesday morning fixing some diggers and vans saw me with no boat home on the usual routes so a Holyhead-Dublin ferry this morning left me with the opportunity for a further 90 mile detour to stone motorsport to collect the roll cage. Another job off the list.
£220 for a set of front parking lights would make you sick but it’ll be good enough motivation to not crash
Had an hour free on Saturday evening past so flipped it on its side and tried out the new GYS welding helmet from paints and components. Just seam welded the drivers side chassis rail to see how it would take. Also need to pull the passengers side leg as I offered up an original subframe and it’s a brave bit out. It’s about an inch and a half up and out so will need a good bit of pushing.
Haven’t got much done lately. Still gathering parts and getting other peoples cars finished up.
Removed the gearbox from the mk2 and sent it away for a refresh. Was crunching second badly and it may have got damaged when the flywheel sheared off as it was pulling forward when in neutral.
Also have a leak on the feed pipe to the rear brake cylinder so will change that out for a new braided line and banjo fitting.
New group 2 mild steel manifold fitted as the other one was blowing badly and I’m fed up patching it up.
Still tipping away at the starlet and gathering parts as and when I can afford it. Bought a brand new gartrac atlas casing but then got the offer of a genuine Ford casing with h/d tubes and fully floating stubs so ended up buying that too.
Picked up a spare set of tail lights and headlight buckets from Japan, got a brand new front wing, new windscreen and rear window rubbers.
Stripped some bits off the K20 and bolted some bits on. Once the world cup crossmember and turrets arrive I’ll start mounting stuff up.
Mk2 should be at Aghadowey on the 26th for Rallysport association so will be good to get out again.
The starlet also got hit a poke at the front corner and needs a pull. No body locally wanted to touch it as it wasn’t rolling etc so I did like any other rational person would do and went and bought a bench and dozer.
Done my man maths as the mk2 needed pulled when I hit it so it made sense in my head.
Nuttscorner was the last day out, got involved with MRF tyres so doing a bit of testing on them. Tyres were good but the track bored the tits off me. After 4 stages I was ready for home. Stuck 2 worn Dunlop’s on the back to slide about and thumped a super single tyre. Fixing up for aghadowey in 2 weeks time, need to weld in a repair panel on the lower quarter as it’s clean rotten and the isopon is 3/4 of an inch deep in places
