I got this drawing after doing some research but it leave you having to do a bit of work to figure out wire colours and still try and figure out pin locations.

If i could find out what each pin in the plug is for id be landed as its just a matter of making up a bit of an interior loom to link all the stuff.

I have the fused supply for live and switched live set up and the earth block so makes things a bit easier when setting up the interior loom .

So made an expensive purchase of 2 new old stock badges . Absolute hens teeth but there's a guy in Greece that has a treasure trove of bits for old vauxhalls but you need to be repaired to pay to get it.

But the old badges were bad and I think I cried that much @Dorno was near going to pay for them for me lol

IMG_5409.jpg

And finally we have the windows working . I don't know why but why is loom insulation tape always the stickies crap know to man .

ended up splitting apart the loom and tracing the wires myself and made a spread sheet of it all .

So all temporary wired until I get the mirrors / central locking sorted .

I need to try and find a new/spare passengers button as its not lighting up and its hard to use so the hunt is on for one.

IMG_5439.jpg

So onto the mirrors and i cant find anything on what the wires do .

I know that the gsi has heated and electric mirrors .

Tried to connect up what i thought was a live and earth but nothing was happening which is why i think the switch is buggered.

IMG_5442.jpg

I can seem to find a non heated switch from a vectra but wanted to try and keep all the functions. But at the end of the day ill never need the heated function lol there will be no frost in the garage.

Think I have the wiring sorted for the mirrors but i think the switch i have is scrap. I opened it and there's supposed to be small springs in it and they are all missing so someone had been messing with it before.

Hopefully have the new switch next week and get that end all sorted out.

Made a small loom up for the rear number plate lights, this car only had one lamp but the gsi has 2 . think some candles would light up more then these bulbs 🤣
IMG_5467.jpg

I had been kicking the exhaust about the garage and decided to get it fitted. The V band clamps make the fitting very handy.

I think I still have to adjust it a bit more as i think the clamp at the bend after getting over the rear beam is sitting a bit lower than I remember after getting the car back from the fabricators.

The tail pipes look like they stick out a bit in that picture but its more subtle in real life.

Use this guy for any replacement bulbs, can get warm white o.e. look or white aftermarket look. Light output and quality are 1st class. Ive replaced all my candles in the Escort with his stuff 👌

Got the new passengers window switch at the weekend. the one I had didn't light up and I thought I also had a problem with the regulator but when I connected up the new switch the regulator is flying. Must have been a bad connection on the old switch.

So onto the mirror wiring . Could not find anything online about wiring so pulled apart the loom and traced the wires, earthed and lived the wires until something happened.
Nothing would work and put it down to the switch not working.

Second hand switch landed and i could only get the up and to one side working and the switch felt a bit stiff so pulled it apart and all the old grease had hardened and one of the point connectors was sort of stuck so cleaned the whole thing up and lubed up everything and got the drivers side working .

Only problem i had then was i ordered a bloody switch with no botton for the heated mirrors
s-l1600.png

But it was easy enough to swop the small button over and the spring and drill a small hole on the casing . just need to find the timed relay now on the fuse board but the mirrors are definitely heating up.

Set about running wires to the passengers side and it mirror would only go up no matter what i done. it was also back feeding current to the switch so im putting it down to a scrap motor. Couldn't find a mk3 Astra motor anywhere but was able to cross reference a number on it and seems like loads of 90's cars used these so got one ordered this morning so hopefully that sorts the issue.

Had the gsi carpet kit from the shell i had but the main carpet bit has seen better days. been trying to source another decent one but cant get one.
Been talking to a few people about dying the carpet and found this stuff online that had a lot of good reviews so going to try and get the old carpet dyed over a few days if there's a bit of sun again.

Sun was shining when i got home last night so thought might as well try and dye the carpets.

Pictures look a bit patchy but in real life it doesn't look like that for some reason.

Turned out a tad darker than I wanted but happy with it.

This was the difference after one coat but it was patch looking

Just to show the difference from what i started with and how it ended

Long story short I cannot work out the passengers mirror and I spent two full evenings trying loads of things and even got a new motor , swopped motors, all combinations of wiring and could t figure it .

I though of using the same wires for the drivers so both worries would work at the same time but that would be stupid so I’ve decided to leave it for now and coil up the wires incase I find out any more info to make it work .

So cracked on with getting the drivers side loom fully fitted including the dash side connection .
IMG_5570.jpeg

Also got an audio upgrade order . Though I might as well do it now when I have it apart . Had to get a set of adapters to fit the front speakers as the new ones are deeper than standards and the magnet hits the rail that the window slides up and down on.

Also needed a harness for the radio. I honestly don’t know what I done before Amazon prime 😂 Radio looks well thanks to seeing @r16vka with one and fits in perfectly with the interior .

So at long last all the wiring is complete and nearly tucked away.

got the door handles and locks fitted now the central locking is complete.

Had to hoover the interior with the mess of wire cuttings and stuff .
IMG_5679.jpg

Couldnt resist throwing the carpets in to see what it looked like.
IMG_5681.jpg

Ready now to start fitting seat belts and the rest of the interior bits.

Chased the trimmer and been promised the seats back by next week.

End line is in sight at long last.

Does the car have insulation under the carpet?

Yeah there's thick insulation under the front section of carpet.

I think there's two small sections for the rear floor section and then its just the carpet folds up to the rear seats and a carpet inlay for the boot.

Yeah pretty much. The donor shell i had had 3 patches around the drivers footwell and behind the seat.

This MK3 and Mk4 range astra's and corsa's had a crap design of detail where the servo joined the firewall and usually leaked. I put a good bead of CT1 round mine so fingers crossed.

Hopefully the only water this will see is when its getting washed.

Yeah it finally all coming together.

The saab gear knob i got with the shifter was scrap so after looking round for a long time I going through a few Saab specialists and turning up nothing I made my first order on Ali Express , god knows what its going to be like.

IMG_5684.jpg

I got a good bit more done last night , roof aerial fitted, interior lights fitted , roof cloth fitted, door cards and interior panels fitted and seat belts.

IMG_5690.jpg
IMG_5691.jpg

The rear boot lid slam panel is scratched up so im on the look out for a nicer one, not that anyone will see it being in the boot .

Hate the thoughts of putting the dash bits back together as the heating controls are always a torture.

So have the interior all fitted bar the seats which i hope to get this week and the steering wheel .

IMG_5728.jpg

IMG_5730.jpg

Ive ran into an issue with the steering wheel and getting the horn working with the non airbag wheel i want to use which is appropriate for the Ph1 gsi

The shell i have is a ph 2 and they came with an airbag loom and a squib on the column.

I have changed to a corsa b power column which is very similar to the Ph1 column.

The awkward bit is now trying to get the wheel to work.

This is the Ph2 with the squib

IMG_5731.JPG

This is the ph 1

IMG_5732.JPG

Might have to do a bit of modding to get this all to fit wit the cowling. for the column.

So managed to source the bit I needed to attached to the steering wheel to get the horn working .

Also got new leather gaiters fitted and got the gear linkage fitted .

Just now waiting on my bloody seats . 3 months i've been waiting now but called last week and they have everything nearly sewn up and just needed to fit it. They are having problems getting their heads around how to do the head rests as there is a hole in the middle.

IMG_5772.jpg

Got the bonnet fitted during the week which fairly sets the front off now.

IMG_5878.jpg
IMG_5879.jpg

Got the omega bonnet lifters fitted, just had to buy the wee ball ends off amazon that are threaded to make things easier as they do for a bolt to holt the bonnet to the hinge.

IMG_5874.jpg

Getting down to the last final wee bits to do , oil and coolant filled during the week, got a big jerry can to fill the petrol tank but need to do the brakes and bleed yet.
