In true LR fashion, it appears it was too good to last. It has lay down this morning, for the third time with the same issue, not recognising the key. She was out doing a grocery shop with our toddler, and when she returned it opened as normal, but then wouldn’t recognise the key to start and then it’s now not locking/unlocking. Got it home on the emergency start, but it wont recognise the key or even the spare.

At this stage my wife has lost heart in it, and I’d say the writing is on the wall if it’s not an easy fix.

Anyone know where to look? I assume, with it being intermittent like that, it must be a short in the wiring. It has had a new earth strap and new keyless module within the last 5weeks.

The one I posted several weeks back lay down on me before I even got it home.

50 odd miles of sublime v8 driving though, I’ll give it that! 😂

Possible water ingress where module is?

BLRC never mentioned it when they did the job, but I checked that briefly when I got home, but no signs, so pulled the carpets back as best I could with interior all in place, incase some water had made its way into the footwells, but again all clear and bone dry. My wife said it opened fine, and she loaded the groceries into the boot first, before opening the cabin, so I checked the exposed wiring running to the tailgate incase it was shorting out on the bodywork, but again, it looks fine. I should add, I am the least electrically minded person, so unless I see exposed wiring, I am deeming it ok lol.

A fella on the disco forum has provided a link to his issues, and it was faulty wiring or a short to the KVM, his was behind the dash.

Just a right pain in the arse after 2 weeks of thinking the issue was sorted. It’s also the hassle of now trying to get it back down to BLRC and then trying to juggle cars so we can still go to work etc.

Edited to add - I don’t want to do anything until BLRC can get a look at it. Obviously they last worked on it to rectify the issue. They have been great so far, so I am hopeful they’ll have a better understanding and can potentially resolve it.

If it’s in with BLRC anyway they use Greenaway when required or if they can’t look at it for a while just explain you’ll book it in with Greenaway and they can tell them what has been done so far.

Mine had an ABS fault and in the end it was a trapped wire. Greenaway found it after a new ABS sensor and then bearing which is normally this issue 😩

Could be damp In another module causing canbus fluctuations possibly,, have you pulled the fuse think it's 17(5amp) or done battery disconnection and discharge across cables to reset and see what happens

Serious? What happened there then?

Transmission fault, checked all obvious electrical stuff etc and couldn’t solve it.

So I was going to have to send into a an LR mechanic, messaged a local specialist asking would he be interested in looking at it and he clearly wasn’t. So without a trailer or 4x4 to tow the trailer I just sold it on.

It could well be, now I know the sunroof drains are clear as I’ve cleaned them in the past.

Pulled the fuse 17 when I got home, its intact and I left it out for a couple of hours, but back in now and no change. I didnt do the battery though. I’d put a brand new battery on 5 weeks ago when this first happened, thinking the original dying battery was the cause, and had left it disconnected and then spent a whole weekend fighting with it trying multiple methods, without success.

Anyone have the rear hub bushing removal tool or one that would work for an l322 they’d fancy selling?
Incase anyone is in the same boat I got this cheap one off ebay (most are nearly twice the price) made for the job and they slipped out in no time.

Spent hours trying diy fixes before ordering it, life’s easy when u’ve the tools for the job.

Did anyone else get their Security upgrade recall letter yet?
I read about that recently and I assume this is available to mine, a 2015 Disco 4? If so, i’ll get it done when its in with LR, hopefully to get this damn electrical issue sorted.

Think it’s 2018-2022?

Surely they are only stealing new RR mostly anyway?
No idea what the target vehicle is at the minute, but assumed if mine was enjoying a stay with LR anyway, I’d get them to update the security but if it’s not eligible, then nothing lost.

It won’t be a 3 month wait for this - retailers are being hammered to get it done quickly due to the nature of it

It’s a 30 minute SW update

Also if you still have LR assist subscription then they will also come and do it for you at home or work - they could also look into your sensor issue as well

Wonder will it make any difference to Charles hurst, they are beyond useless! Can’t see them going out of the way to do it sooner.

Will it over-write ECU modifications? Asking for a mate...

They should be dedicating resource to this - the retailer I went to here had two bays and techs full time for this

It’s a body control module update so depends what you have modified - assuming PCM then no however the DTC for remapping will be stored and read out but this only matters if you have warranty

Regretfully yes.. June was earliest date we could get...

Is the sensor issue a known problem? Reading lots of similar issues from the FB owners group on Defender over the last few weeks.
Red box around the car on the screen, front sensors working OK.

I may look at the LR Assist option. (y)

What are the issues?

@Robin_Hood - ring LR assist today and they will be out with you in the next couple of days and sort all the issues. No knowledge of the parking sensor issue but I haven’t worked for JLR since Nov
