£50k to spend - has to be fast, do 30mpg on a motorway run and be kind of ‘special’.

Agreed. I daily mine (22 miles each way) on commute. Bit stiff on normal roads but phenomenally fast pickup from any speed. Or relaxed little machine in efficient mode and gearbox relaxed. The second oil service is north of a grand but I don’t think many would be quite there yet so something to consider when purchasing.
what do they do if an oil service is a grand, mad

Because it’s the second one (at ca. 36/7k miles) they’ve got to replace sparkies. Now, it could be a pile of poo but as I understand it to get to the plugs on these engines is a bit of a job so time is get £. Edit: Just re-reading my original data there and the sparks issue relates to original M2 (Comp may be the same but it’s a different engine so perhaps not after all?).

Yeah, fair bit of labour involved in the S55 major, My M4 got it last year, was £823 iirc retail price is over £1100

Was that at Bavarian? If you don’t mind me asking, did you get a bit of money off or is that ex. Vat?

Prentice's are currently quoting £838.70 for the major service..... one eye on that, as I need it done at the end of the year. Might be able to wangle a friends and fam 10% discount on that, but its still sweaty!

It's got me considering an indy, but dealer goodwill is always handy and I've got the extended warranty too.

Anyways, I digress.

Complete leftfield choice, a low mileage Mk2 focus RS, with mountune kit?

850i ? These 8 series are one of the best looking cars on the road and are really nice to drive, albeit I've only driven the 840i

E92 M3 and use the left over change to offset the extra fuel cost from not getting 30mpg! haha

Joking aside, an RS6 would be my choice, or an M2 Comp if you didn't need something just as practical.

Biased, but the ISF is definitely worth a shout. Can see 30mpg or close on a run thanks to a nice long 8th gear. Over my ownership this year past, I've averaged 22mpg. That's more than plenty hard driving also.

Rare too!

Dont rule a V8 out on economy. My 20+ year old E55 got more economical the closer you got to 100mph.
I had a 2004 XJ Jag 4.2 v8 and on the way back from wales I was running early for the boat so sat at 60 with the lorries. Managed 38mpg. Did routinely pass 30mpg once home if on the motorway, and I'd imagine cars have got more economical since

In saying that, the 2000 CL500 5.0 v8 I had could barely get into the low 20s on a motorway run. Mad difference.

Passed a black one like that on the Sydenham Bypass this morning and it really caught my eye. Lovely lines, love the rear arches on it.

Lovely car, but id probably go for an m6 gran coupe instead, them seem serious value for money.
