I was fortunate enough to once drive a UK DC2 with a twinloop fitted, which surprised me how well it sounded over a standard example I drove some weeks before.

I'd love to be tinkering on mine but it's at a relative's house and SORN'd and on the wrong plates for the moment, so not a home of moving it closer.

So, I got really bored (was supposed to be tidying the garage) and in between times I took a bit of a break to do this.

I think it came up really well considering how I stared. Majority of it done by hand and finished up and refined on a DA. Took a fair bit of time but will just add a nice touch to the interior.

Hopefully things will get back to normal soon, kicking myself I didn’t get the screen sorted before all this, I could be cracking on and have it all done. Oh well!

An afternoon spent polishing your nob fair play. All joking aside looks great. What did you use for it?

Looks well. I’m sure lots of people have spent their time polishing their knobs the last few weeks but without the same results!

Haha yes indeed, it is the time for a bit of knob polishing!

Started with various grades of sanding by hand.

240 > 400 > 800 > 1500 > 3000

Then a a microfibre pad on the now 10 year old DA with Meguairs Metal Polish.

I done the exact same thing on my DC5 gearknob a few years ago. I ended up cutting the head off a bolt and screwed it into the knob then stuck it in the cordless drill. It was much quicker and easier to work with.

Yours definitely looks a good job now.

I screwed the coilovers up at the rear and then a quick test-drive. Ignore the windscreen (still wasn't fixed)

IMG_7563.jpg

Still wasn't happy with the rear - so back home again and stuck it up a bit more. Light had went by this stage so I will get some proper photos in the future but I'm happy now, it's a bit higher than above and has lost the reverse rake, so happy days!

So, finally (FINALLY) after 3 failed attempts (namely Autoglass bringing an Acura RSX screen, twice!) and after me insisting that they shouldn't come back unless it was with a genuine Honda windscreen - it's finally in!

IMG_0145.jpg

Happy days! Waiting was killing me, so glad it's finally in!

Ignore the missing trim and wiper arms etc. I asked them to let me put them back on as I went to Honda to buy all new clips etc. (Which I didn't ask the price of when ordering lol nearly **** myself).

Here is me making sure they are all correct, a bit of overkill but this means it will be on perfect:

IMG_20200619_205955248.jpg

Also painted the wiper arms to freshen them up and cleaned and dressed the scuttle panels. Gave the battery tie a quick rub and spray too (quick job, better, but not perfect). Happy with how the arms turned out, though pretty much perfect! Bought brand new wiper blades too.

IMG_0174.jpg

So, I can now start to put this back together again. But, before I do might as well try and tidy up the seats (replace the bolster foam and a good deep clean) I also cleaned the door cards and all surfaces inside the car fully to get rid of any lingering odour from the leak over the last while. So here is how I left it until next time. Going to whip the steering wheel off to redo as well.

IMG_0192.jpg

I also picked up a total bargain, this (already refurbished Rocker Cover for £80+Postage) I recon I could even recoup around £50 for my old one, seems to be the going rate. Bought new gasket etc and will add to the ever increasing list to fit lol.

IMG_2915.jpg

So an update to the running total (Bought a few more bits, undecided if I will fit all of them) total spending now over £1,000 with still a bit more to go. Turning back the years of people not properly looking after things takes time and money. This will never be a concourse car by any means, but will be 100 times better by the time it’s done.

Hopefully will all be worth it, not the most I've spent on one by any means lol. Always works out in the end OK... usually!

Nicely done! Love these DC5, just so quick and fun to drive, also one of the best car to learn on the track too!

Very much a faff. It needs to be done by the previous owner, really, or you need to know someone with a down south address so I never bothered. Too much hassle.

Aye thought as much, easy in theory but not really worth the hassle depending on the car, and if u where happy with the price without it no real issue. Always admired the dc5 but never driven one, does it feel fast? Relatively modest power compared to fk2 etc these days but pretty lite i’m sure, and so many revs 🤪

I enjoyed my FK2 but only really on a dry day... on a wet day it was a bit of a handful. The only thing I didn’t like about the FK2 were the rev-hang gear changes. It was a nice place to be and if I had to daily a car and not worry about MPG it would be an FK2, no question. I really just love older cars as a weekend toy.

My FK2 was wasted on me I bought it with 50 miles on it and sold it with less than 1,500 lol. The DC5 isn’t as fast but I just love them in my opinion they are the perfect weekend toy.

flip me haha in contrast I owned mine for about 1 1/2 years and put about 30k on it and used about 4 sets of tyres haha devs not a car for the wet though. will have to own a DC5 some day bought a 987 Cayman s as a sort of weekend toy, when/if it goes maybe a DC5 in its place. love the reg's btw, nothing cooler for someone with a few cars of cars haha.

Great thread! Really love the DC5. There’s an old knackered DC2 near me, breaks my heart seeing the state it’s in.

I really want this, but it's £300 lol! But it's about the cleanest original I've seen.

I could get mine redone for less than half but I'd loose the Momo embossed logo and it would be slightly thicker, but it's just me being fussy lol.

So I've decided to remove the RBC inlet manifold and go back to a standard DC5 (PRC) manifold. For a few reasons really:

  • Cheaper: I should be able to get around £200-£250 back selling the RBC and the OEM PRC I bought for £78.
  • Mapping: Realistically the RBC and other mods should be fitted and the car remapped. It's currently on the standard ECU. Very little (if any) benefit in the current state.
  • Inconvenience: At the moment (because of the different angle and design of the RBC) the bonnet stand holders are missing and also the OEM Airbox Hose wont fit and I really want to get rid of the current open cone filter.
So the process was fairly easy. Apart from a few hard-to-access bolts on either side I needed my Dad's help with (as usual!)... and it's off!

In keeping with the shoddy workmanship I've been slowly reversing on this car, I had a bit of a surprise when I pulled out the injectors and found one of them has a missing tip. I can only assume this was just popped in with a "that'll do" attitude. A bit annoying as it looks like I'll have to buy a new injector, but not the end of the world. You can see it here the one on the right-hand side:

OEM Item purchased at a cost of £78 delivered, should be here this Thursday. Just need a new gasket (might as well while I'm this far) and a few wee bits and pieces around it. And a new OEM Airbox Hose (should be around £40). I most likely will change the rocker cover before everything is all built up again.

Another thing I forgot about (until now) that I always like to change is the two pollen filters. These were pretty filthy so will be replaced too.
