Andy is the founding member of RMS, and when he's not following motoring events around the UK and Ireland he can be found on the track (sideways, having competed in top level drifting for a decade), or of course he'll be on the forum.

Supercar Sunday saw an enormous turnout of exotic vehicles as part of the charity run ending up at the Bishopscourt race circuit in County Down. The event was bolstered by both the Driven club and the new Bumblebee 1000 club, both supercar groups joining the main Supercar Sunday crowd for the charity event that supports both the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance and the Northern Ireland Hospice. When I joined the early morning Sunday meet at Sprucefield near Lisburn, this translated into over a hundred supercars, and no doubt a multi-million pound convoy down the A1 towards Bishopscourt complete with police…

Motoring event experts, GTI NI, return in top form bringing us a brand new show in Eurotreffen, held at the Blue Circle Boat Club just down the coast from Larne. This highly anticipated outdoor car show was put together at fairly short notice, in line with easing Covid restrictions it was an opportunity for the team behind internationally reknowned Dubshed to do what they know best and bring great cars and their owners together in one place. I had spoken to Gethin, one of the GTI NI crew in a recent Sold as Seen Podcast episode and it was clear…

Clear blue skies, t-shirts, supercars, an autotest, coffee, a Porsche specialist workshop open day, and hundreds of petrolheads in one place. By what were normal comparisons this sounds like great day out, but today’s event at McMillan (along with the NI BMW meet and others) meant seeing friends face to face for the first time in over a year, not to mention their cars! Supercars rolled into the McMillan yard and we all admired the exposed carbon on a Lambo; the size of wing on a GT3 RS (and its cup holding ability – according to its owner). A Nova…

The Sold as Seen team pay their respects to a local legend from the Northern Ireland car community. Sadly, Dave “the Boffin” Hollinger, the man with most recognisable Toyota Corolla “twin cam” on this island, was laid to rest this week. Andy, Craig and Gaz deliver their own personal eulogy to Dave, recalling how he was often at the centre of every car event during the early 2000s. https://shows.acast.com/sold-as-seen/ Find us on: Spotify Apple Podcasts Google Podcasts Soundcloud Acast YouTube RSS Feed or just ask Siri or Alexa to Play Sold as Seen It is very fitting that his week’s guest was no stranger to either Dave or…

Sold as Seen Podcast returns for episode three presented by Andy Cooper along with Gary Reilly and Craig Allen. In this show we talk about the car competitions that are now rife, inspired by RMS Member David Murphy and his very recent win of a Twin Cam Corolla, and we even give him a call on the show to tell us all about the experience of winning. We also speak to Donal from Trackskills about the return of track days. All on an episode where we planned to have no guests! I also drop some news about a new…

We’re excited to launch all new podcast, Sold as Seen. The show is hosted by myself, Andy Cooper, along with forum members and good mates Craig Allen (Rocko) and Gary Reilly (Gaz). https://soundcloud.com/user-801848118/sold-as-seen-pilot-the-new-m3-andy-buys-a-gr-yaris Our aim is simple, chat about the latest motoring news and events, and use the reach of RMS to bring along as many interesting guests as we can convince to speak to us, and have a lot of craic along the way. We don’t want to overcook it so we’ll be publishing monthly, with guests joining us on episode two. The podcast should be appearing on all…

The embargos are lifted, and Chris Harris is one of the first out of the gate with a review of the new, big nostril, G80 generation BMW M3 Competition, at Castle Coombe circuit. Some specs for reference, 1730kg, some 150kg heavier than the outgoing car, which is a bit of a shock. This competition car has 510bhp out of the box, using the similar S55 from the previous car but now mated to the ubiquitous ZF8 auto rather than the all or nothing DCT in the F80. And now with option of X-Drive and more interestingly, a touring variant. https://youtu.be/YRpvDsWvtkc

Having dabbled in motorsport, I know the value of minimising weight and maximising power. Turbos get bigger whilst glass becomes lexan and all non-essentials end up in the bin or ebay. Yet road cars are getting heavier every year, blame it on battery packs or safety regulations but the effect is the same hobbling a car’s dynamic ability. It’s no surprise then, that I was attracted to one of the lightest sports cars on the road, the Lotus Exige. Admittedly weighing in at a shade over 1100kg it is heavy compared to the Elise on which it shares much of…

At the start of October, just before the second lockdown, myself and several other RMS members made the run down to Mondello Park Race Circuit for a trackday run by trackdays.ie. Mondello is about 2.5hrs from Belfast, a straightforward run down the M1, round the M50 about half an hour from Dublin itself. Having competed in drift competitions there years ago I was excited to get back out onto the technical international circuit. Sun and clear skies as we neared Dublin helped build anticipation for some great track conditions. The trackdays.ie events have been run by Rob King and Stephen…
